Chapter 14
Communication with the Father-in-Law

As an inside man for the Seven Stars Society in the prosecution office, Choi Eun Ho had been silently working for them while serving as a prosecutor.

The biggest reason for this was that they held incriminating evidence against Choi Eun Ho.

If the prosecution office publicly revealed his undercover identity in a few days, then the leverage they had on him would be rendered useless.

Chang An Tae knew in his heart that Choi Eun Ho’s gratitude for the financial support and the in-law relationship was at most three-tenths.

Choi Eun Ho continued, “My current situation is quite delicate. As someone under investigation, every move I make within this field is under surveillance.

However, fortunately, the prosecution office has not uncovered my true identity.

Before this, I had communicated with personnel within the prosecution office, and this press conference is actually a way for me to temporarily dodge the investigation.

It’s a form of indirect protection I secured by leveraging my ‘achievements’ and my good relationship with the local prosecution office.”

Chang An Tae’s eyes showed a hint of approval; he understood Choi Eun Ho’s intentions.

He asked in a low voice, “So, you’re still our undercover agent planted in the prosecution office?”

Choi Eun Ho nodded slightly, answering frankly, “Yes, by then I will have completely severed ties with the Black Society. After all, an undercover agent with a public identity can’t have too much contact with you.”

He paused for a moment, his tone softening, “Don’t forget, I’m still your son-in-law. Who would know if we just talk on the phone privately?”

Choi Eun Ho chuckled, radiating confidence, as if everything was under his control.

He turned to Chang An Tae and said casually, “Dad, you really don’t need to worry. Everything is progressing as planned, just have the Seven Stars Society put on a show of anger and fear towards me, their undercover agent.

In the coming days, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office will be cracking down on the criminal gangs in several districts of Seoul. You should focus your attention on this matter.”

Choi Eun Ho casually picked up the proposal on the table, his eyes flitting lightly across the paper, seemingly searching for some key information.

Soon, he looked up, a smile on his face, as if satisfied with what he saw.

“It seems you’ve already started preparing for industry adjustment and transfer,” he continued, as if confirming a fact he already knew.

Chang An Tae nodded slightly, his expression calm, without a ripple.

“Yes, laundering industries, plugging the holes in our crimes, these are all plans that our society has already established.”

His voice was calm, as if he was discussing a simple business plan.

The Seven Stars Society, an organization that had existed for nearly thirty years since the last century, now faced the increasingly constricted situation of being targeted by the crackdown on criminal gangs.

Therefore, they must start industry transfers and asset laundering as soon as possible; this was the true king’s way to ensure the organization’s long-term development.

In the process of transitioning from the brink of death to stability and prosperity, they transformed from core members of the dark forces into capitalists who controlled the economic lifeline.

This transformation not only brought material wealth but also led to a qualitative leap in their social status.

Although there were still a few members with a lower level of education and stubborn personalities who disagreed with this.

But the majority of members in the society expressed their approval.

With Choi Eun Ho’s undercover identity within the prosecution office, and their bribing of certain government officials, some seemingly difficult plans became easy to implement.

Chang An Tae was pleased with Choi Eun Ho’s arrangements; he knew that with these safeguards, their society’s operations would be smoother.

Chang An Tae mentioned Choi Eun Ho and So Sik’s relationship. He asked with a mix of worry and anticipation, “So Sik, why would she take the initiative to investigate you?”

Choi Eun Ho seemed a little helpless, sighing softly, “You know So Sik’s personality. She just overheard our conversation last night and misunderstood that I was conspiring with you. It’s alright, I’ll go back and ‘smooth things over’ and talk to her tonight!”

Chang An Tae furrowed his brows slightly, nodded, and expressed understanding of Choi Eun Ho’s predicament.

His mind, however, was replaying the two phone calls from half an hour ago.

………

………

Half an hour before.

“Father,”

Chang So Sik called out softly. These two simple words felt like a thousand pounds on her shoulders.

She tried to keep her heart in mind, reminding herself that the man on the other end of the line was the notorious, wicked gang boss.

She used this searing sense of shame to wake herself up, to make this fact permanently imprinted in her heart.

The familiar laughter came from the other end of the phone, “Eh! So Sik, why’d you suddenly call your dad?

Do you want to come back and see us? Or are you short of money?

Has Eun Ho been bullying you?

Are you busy with work lately? Is being a judge fun?

Have you missed Daddy? Daddy’s been thinking about you all the time, hahaha!”

This laughter, like sharp blades, slashed through her heart again and again, causing her to painfully remind herself that this man was the greatest shame of her life.

On the other end of the phone, a rapid and continuous voice reached her ears. All sorts of questions came at her like a tide, leaving her no chance to speak.

Only when Chang An Tae finally stopped did she take a deep breath and ask in a low, firm voice, “Father, tell me the truth, is Eun Ho Oppa an undercover agent you planted in the prosecution office?”

On the other end of the phone, Chang An Tae’s eyes clearly flashed a hint of surprise, but he quickly regained his composure.

………

………

Choi Eun Ho had just finished his conversation, concisely conveying the information.

“So Sik might have caught on to our relationship,”

“If she calls you, she’ll probably ask two questions.

She might ask if I’m an undercover agent sent by the prosecution office to be by your side.

Or she might question if you’ve planted spies in the prosecution office.”

“For the first question, your reaction must be shock. Make her feel your doubt and confusion.

Then, explain that I’m contacting you to make amends for the rift between us.”

“For the second question, you need to stay calm and tell her that I am actually an undercover agent sent by the prosecution office to be by your side, but you’ve already figured it all out.”

“As for why you haven’t taken action, tell her that you’ve been holding back because you’re thinking of her and don’t want her to get hurt right after getting married.”

“I must dispel So Sik’s suspicions about my identity. Regarding future plans, we will discuss them in person. As for how to proceed, I’m sure you understand better than me, my father-in-law!”
