“I’ll go first. I set two cards face-down. End turn.”
Light Mask, a member of the Gurus, took the first turn. He set two magic/trap cards and ended his turn without summoning a monster.
Based on their positions, it was Kaiba’s turn next.
He drew a card, glanced at his hand, then placed one card in his monster zone.
“Normal Summon Bloodthirsty Orc.”
The Orc wielding a bloodstained axe appeared on the field. ATK: 1900 DEF: 1200. As a four-star Normal monster, it possessed high stats, capable of taking down Axe King and Bull Head Man.
“If the rules allowed me to attack on my first turn, I’d tear you apart right now.”
Kaiba set another magic/trap card and ended his turn.
“Heh, as expected from Kaiba Corp. President, having such a powerful monster is truly impressive. My monster can't compare.”
When it was Dark Mask’s turn, he let out a sarcastic chuckle and also Normal Summoned a monster.
A flash of light, and a four-star Normal monster, Radiant Abyss, appeared on his field. ATK: 1600 DEF: 1800.
“Don’t worry, partner. The moment you summon your monster, I’ll activate the magic card, Brutalize Mask.”
The instant Radiant Abyss appeared, Light Mask activated his face-down card, Brutalize Mask.
This was an Equip Spell card, increasing the equipped monster’s ATK by 1000 and reducing its DEF by 1000.
Radiant Abyss’s ATK immediately jumped to 2600.
“What? Such a high attack monster on the first turn.”
Kaiba was slightly surprised at the equipped monster on his opponent’s field.
“Heh, it seems the one truly protected by the rules is you. Otherwise, the monster on your field would have been destroyed.”
Dark Mask retorted.
“Oh right, partner. Brutalize Mask has a negative effect. The controller of this card must pay 1000 Life Points during each of their Standby Phases. Otherwise, this card will be destroyed.”
Light Mask said with a sigh, as if remembering something.
“Oh, this negative effect is truly unfavorable. But I have this, I activate the Continuous Spell card Mask Puppet. As long as this card is on the field, we won’t be affected by effect damage. (No real card, effect is based on speculation).”
Dark Mask activated a magic card.
“Hehehe, good job, partner. Now I won’t have to pay anything.”
Light Mask laughed heartily, then looked at Yugi and Kaiba with smug satisfaction.
Seeing them act in perfect sync, Yugi thought to himself, “These two should be in the Deyun Society. They'd be a great comedic duo."
But he was more inclined to complain about an Equip Spell card being activated during another player's turn.
Well, the Duel City tournament rules did allow it.
Under these rules, Magic cards had a much higher practicality than Trap cards.
Yugi made up his mind. After this matter was resolved, he had to have a good chat with the President to change the game rules.
Otherwise, some of these actions were simply too irritating for him.
Dark Mask didn’t make any further moves and ended his turn, quickly bringing it to Yugi's turn.
“A cooperative strategy, I see. Your deck is built specifically for tag duels.”
Yugi furrowed his brows slightly, these two were well-prepared.
In the Yu-Gi-Oh! card pool, there were many cards that were mediocre in normal duels but had an extraordinary effect in tag duels.
From this point of view, neither he nor Kaiba had prepared powerful cards for tag duels, which put them at a disadvantage.
“Humph, just two Gurus' pawns. Even if it were just me, I could crush them. Yugi, you’re nothing more than a decoration for my path to victory.”
Even though it wasn’t his turn, the President still expressed his disdain for the tag duel collaboration.
“True strength is solitary, fearless of any challenge. Partners are only a hindrance.”
Yugi didn’t refute Kaiba’s extreme statement.
Although he had also played tag duels before crossing over, he hadn’t played many times, and it was always with random players. They just dueled independently.
So, even though he didn’t fully agree with Kaiba's words, he wasn’t going to argue.
“My turn, draw.”
Yugi drew a card from his deck, it was Gem-Knight Lapis Lazuli, the only monster card he had in his hand at this point.
Looking at his six cards, well, his hand was a bit of a mixed bag.
He had two copies of Dust Tornado, two copies of Black Hole, one copy of Sacred Shield of the Reflecting Mirror Force, and the Lapis Lazuli he just drew.
After pondering for three seconds, Yugi turned to his partner and asked, “Kaiba, what card did you set? Do you mind if I clear the field?”
“What do you mean? It’s your turn. Do whatever you want.”
Kaiba continued looking at his hand, thinking about how to summon the higher-level monsters in his hand. He didn’t want to pay much attention to his tag duel partner.
He was treating a multiplayer game as a single-player game.
“Fine, since you said so, I won’t hold back. Activate Dust Tornado.”
Yugi slammed his magic card onto the field.
He originally wanted to gauge whether Kaiba’s back row was crucial and then decide whether or not to clear the field.
After all, according to the tag duel rules, he couldn't see his partner’s set cards or hand. He didn’t know what Kaiba had set.
But Kaiba had given him free rein, so why hesitate?
“This…”
Seeing the Dust Tornado heading towards their field, Light Mask and Dark Mask almost coughed up a mouthful of blood. They just spent their turn setting up a chain of moves.
They just wanted a strong monster on the field. Now, their multiple card plays were blown up by one card. Huge loss!
Even Kaiba was frowning. Although it was true that he told Yugi to do whatever he wanted, he didn’t expect this. He had something important set!
The only thing that gave him a little solace was that his Bloodthirsty Orc was stronger than Radiant Abyss. With no back row, he still had the advantage.
“Then, I set a monster face-down and a card face-down. End turn.”
After causing a stir, Yugi didn’t care. He set Gem-Knight Lapis Lazuli face-down.
Even though this card was a Normal monster, it had a massive DEF of 2100. Even Kaiba's Bloodthirsty Orc couldn't break through it.
But he still thought it was best to be cautious. After all, in tag duels, 4000 Life Points weren't enough. It could be gone in an instant.
He was standing on a platform a hundred meters above the ground.
