“It must be pretty weak, right? Xia always acted so dismissive of Psyduck,” Zhi said, propping his chin on his hand.
“I don’t dislike Psyduck anymore, I just think this one is kinda slow and different from the Psyducks I’ve seen before,” Xia said.
“So Xia, do you know anything about Psyduck’s details?” Mao asked, just as before.
“I don’t,” Xia replied somewhat awkwardly. Dreaming of becoming a Water-type Pokémon master, she naturally needed to know about all Water-type Pokémon. She really wasn’t sure what was going on with this Psyduck.
Although Xia loved Water-type Pokémon, she preferred the cute and adorable ones. She wasn't too fond of Psyduck, with its slow-witted nature.
“While Psyduck is a Water-type Pokémon, it has a high potential for Psychic-type abilities. It has a strong mental force, and the stronger the mental force of a Psyduck, the more its head will ache, making it appear slow. The slower the Psyduck, the higher its potential,” Mao explained.
“What! Is that true?!” Zhi was shocked. He’d let Xia catch Psyduck because it was so slow.
Zhi knew how powerful Psychic-type Pokémon were, and he instantly regretted giving Psyduck to Xia.
“Really?” Xia looked at the Psyduck she was holding, enjoying its presence, completely oblivious to Mao’s earlier remarks.
With such a clueless attitude, this Psyduck wasn’t your average dumb one, it was the epitome of cluelessness. If it was that slow, then it definitely had high potential.
“Nazi, you are a Psychic, you should be able to sense this Psyduck’s mental force, right?” Mao said.
Xia immediately looked at Nazi. She knew Jun was a Psychic, so his daughter had to be one too. Nazi had previously used her Psychic abilities to figure out why the Diglett was destroying the dam construction.
“Miss Nazi, is it true?” Xia asked.
“I’ll take a look.”
Nazi approached Psyduck, placed her hand on its head, and sensed its mental force.
She had no idea, and as she sensed it, her pupils widened in surprise.
“Miss Nazi, what’s wrong?” Xia curiously asked, seeing the change in Nazi’s expression.
“This Psyduck has a very strong mental force and high potential. It can definitely grow to Champion level,” Nazi said.
Nazi felt that Psyduck’s mental force was no less than her Alakazam.
Regarding the division of Pokémon potential, before Pokémon grew up, it could only be tested at the level of normal, elite, and gym. It was impossible to detect potential above gym level. You could only tell if a Pokémon could grow and to what extent before you could determine its potential.
However, Psychic-type Pokémon were different. Their talent could be detected through their mental force. Nazi’s Alakazam had Champion potential. This Psyduck's mental force was no less than Alakazam’s at its Kadabra stage. That meant it had at least Champion potential, and it might even have the potential to be a Champion.
“Really?!”
Xia was overjoyed. She had been worried about how to train Psyduck. Now, she realized that it had such high potential.
Zhi and Gang were also surprised. They never thought that the slow-witted Psyduck would have such high potential.
“But even if it has high potential, how do we train Psyduck?”
“Yeah, a Pokémon with high potential is great, but it won’t grow if you don’t train it,” Zhi and Gang said in turn.
“This...!”
Xia quickly pulled out of her joy, her brows furrowed, worried about how to train Psyduck.
Because Xia’s Psyduck had such high potential, to release its mental power, it could only do so when its head was throbbing with pain. It could only release the mental force accumulated in its brain when it was experiencing excruciating pain. However, while releasing the mental force, Psyduck would be in a state of conscious sleep.
After Psyduck released all its mental force, it would wake up, but wouldn’t remember the process of releasing its mental power.
“To train Psyduck, there are two ways. One is to let Psyduck evolve into Golduck, so it can completely control the mental power in its brain.”
“The second method is to train Psyduck through hypnosis, helping it get familiar with controlling its mental force. Over time, it will learn to control it.”
Mao offered two options.
These two options weren’t just randomly suggested by Mao, they were the conclusions he reached after discussing with Professor Oak.
“Psyduck can evolve into what?” Zhi asked in confusion, taking out the Pokédex from his yukata pocket to check.
“Golduck, the Duck Pokémon, the evolution of Psyduck. The webbing on its hands and feet is used for propulsion, allowing it to move faster in water than any other Water-type Pokémon,”
The Pokédex gave a brief introduction to Golduck and showed its picture.
“Golduck looks so cool,” Zhi exclaimed.
It was hard to imagine that Psyduck could evolve into such a cool form. It really was a case of not judging a book by its cover.
“It’s so awesome!” Xia crowded in and was instantly attracted by Golduck’s handsome appearance, becoming an instant fan.
“Xia, your Psyduck isn't very high level yet. It’s still a long way to go before it can evolve into Golduck,” Gang reminded her.
“Um... what about hypnosis training?” Xia asked.
“Hypnosis training uses hypnosis to put Golduck into a trance state. During this state, you can give Golduck training commands. This way, Psyduck can use its mental force while in a trance, and long-term training will help it alleviate the headaches,” Mao explained.
“Hypnosis training, there is such a method.” Zhi was amazed.
Not only Zhi, but also Gang and Xia were hearing this training method for the first time. They had never heard of it.
“Of course there is. There is even a Pokémon that is trained using this method by nature. If Psyduck can master the Dream Eater ability, training will be easier,” Mao said.
“So Mao, how exactly do we do it?” Xia humbly asked for advice.
Now that she knew Psyduck had extraordinary potential, as a trainer, Xia naturally wanted to nurture Psyduck well.
“Nazi, you can use hypnosis to give Psyduck subconscious orders, right?” Mao said.
“I’ll try.”
Nazi didn’t refuse. She pinched Psyduck’s beak and turned its head towards her.
“Guba?”
Psyduck was full of question marks. It didn’t take what everyone had said to heart, and didn’t know what they were going to do to it.
Nazi’s eyes flashed with a blue light,
“Gu...!”
Psyduck’s eyelids immediately drooped halfway down, its eyes became lost, and then its body floated on the water, the water surface seeming like flat ground to it.
