“Angel technique, ‘Angel Fall’?”
Roy muttered, his memory of this technique from the world of Toaru Majutsu no Index was vivid.
“In the Kabbalah Tree of Life theory, the number of humans and angels is predetermined. Thus, under normal circumstances, humans cannot ascend to become angels. This technique's purpose is to cause the angel to regress into a ‘human’ during the activation of the ritual.”
“However, this world differs from my world in terms of information and rules. Moreover, due to the time constraints, I can't set up a large ritual field for precise calibration. I can ensure this technique works, but its effectiveness will likely be short-lived, perhaps only a moment.”
“Furthermore, using an Angel Technique as a human is risky. It will introduce a substantial ‘poison’ into you, triggering your original sin. Activating the technique for a mere moment is the best option to avoid affecting your body and soul.”
Aiwass was an angel who acted as she pleased, rarely intervening in reality. However, Roy’s unique nature presented her with numerous unknowns and captivating explorations, a miracle worthy of envy even among Demon Gods. Thus, she was incredibly dedicated to ensuring Roy's safety.
If Aiwass wasn't merely a ‘spirit’ with limited interference in reality, the ‘Holy Guardian Angel’ would have intervened herself.
By Roy's side, she lived up to her name, ‘Holy Guardian Angel’.
“So, I have to decide the outcome in an instant? Ha, I wouldn't normally engage in something with such a low success rate, but this is an abnormal situation. I have a feeling that if I miss this chance, I might lose all my courage and my life will become as pointless as Aleister's.”
Roy licked his dry lips and said grimly, “Alright, tell me how to set up the ritual field, Aiwass!”
“As you wish… Place the staff symbolizing fire at the lowest point of Kabbalah. Since the external angels are confirmed to be Michael and Metatron, their symbols should be placed in the Kingdom, where angels are transformed into humans… The silver knife is in the place of Victory, with the magic numbers being 93, 70… The central beauty is Michael, and the crown is Metatron…”
…
“Heretic, stealing my authority, you who gaze upon the divine face like a cunning demon, today I shall judge you!”
In the raging desert, a majestic angel with long red hair stood with wings of fire spread wide. He held a crimson cross-shaped sword in his hand and was fighting against the heretical angel Metatron.
In reality, ‘Metatron’ is a title, representing the ‘God's most beloved angel’. It doesn't refer to a specific angel. Within the Christian faith, Michael is undeniably Metatron. However, in the pseudepigraphical text ‘The Book of Enoch’, Metatron becomes Enoch.
“Michael, you should kneel before me. Otherwise, you are defying the Lord’s authority. You consider a righteous man as the Messiah, equal to the Lord. This is the greatest blasphemy!”
The angel, bearing thirty-six pairs of wings, responded with righteousness. Unlike Michael’s fearless and resolute voice, Metatron’s voice was gentle. According to ‘The Book of Enoch’, Metatron is the most revered angel, but his duty is ‘Heavenly Scribe’, making him more of a scholar.
“There's no need for words, you cunning serpent of many faces, deceiving the Lord. I will sever you like a red dragon and send you to eternal hell to atone for your deceit against the Lord!”
Michael's expression was righteous and noble. In the Bible, Michael embodies ‘absolute justice’, and all his actions are righteous.
“Boom——————”
The two angels clashed again, splitting the earth and tearing apart the sky. The scene resembled a scene of the Last Judgment, unfolding before Roy and reflected on the desert.
The raging sandstorm formed again, driven by hurricanes and tornadoes that touched the sky. The scorching, holy flame of the sun, shining in the midday sun, transformed the desert into a colossal furnace.
This was a battle that mortals could not imagine. Even the most powerful magicians could only flee in despair at the sight of this apocalyptic scene. This was the disobedient God that had descended from myth and landed on Earth. They were moving natural disasters, the harbingers of despair. Even the most benevolent deities in mythology would become disasters when they turned into disobedient gods, bringing death and weeping to humanity with every act.
Or perhaps, for humanity, God is inherently a symbol of disaster, whether benevolent or malevolent. Mortals cannot bear the grace or punishment of gods. That's why these gods are woven into mythology, never again able to harm the world.
“Be slain by me, Enoch! I will not acknowledge your ‘Metatron’ title. After killing you, I will wander the earth, seeking the ‘Demon King’. I will either kill the Demon King to save the people, or be killed by the Demon King and return to heaven to serve at the Lord’s right hand again! Whether I live or die, I will emerge victorious!”
Michael shouted, his handsome face radiating heroic determination.
“Forgery! Forgery! You are not the Michael I know, the one who guided me to heaven! You are merely a forgery twisted by myth!”
Metatron responded furiously to Michael, and the two angels rampaged across the earth and sky once again.
“Things are getting a bit tricky…”
The violent sandstorm tore at Roy's skin, leaving bloody gashes. The surrounding temperature soared under the flames, almost melting him.
Yet, Roy pushed forward with his will, enduring the pain as he navigated the sandstorm. He held only the fragment of ‘Longinus Spear’. To kill Michael or Metatron, he needed to get close, and the combat range of the two angels was vast. The mere shockwaves were enough to ravage everything. The closer Roy got to achieving the feat of slaying a god, the more he had to endure the apocalyptic environment, inching closer to them.
Fortunately, both angels were uninterested in Roy, a mere mortal. They simply battled each other, giving Roy a chance to approach as a mortal amidst their battlefield.
“I recall that the power of a disobedient god mainly stems from their affirmation of self. Whether it's Michael or Metatron, they are deeply rooted in their identities. Although disobedient gods, they are infinitely close to their original forms in mythology.”
“Since the two angels’ cognitive strength is equal, the descriptions in mythology will play a crucial role.”
The scene before him was unexpected. Roy thought that Metatron and Michael’s powers overlapped significantly, and their status was almost identical. He assumed their fight would be a desperate struggle with both sides suffering significant losses.
However, the reality was that Michael was suppressing Metatron.
While Metatron could resist and counterattack, causing Michael harm, even Roy could see a vast difference in combat strength between the two angels. This was not a scenario of mutual destruction; Michael would ultimately prevail.
“This is bad. The only description of Metatron in ancient texts is in ‘The Book of Enoch’. Apart from his three hundred years walking with God, there are no other accounts of his achievements… But Michael is different. Nearly all the ‘wars’ and ‘battles’ in the Bible were orchestrated by Michael. Even Satan was cast into hell by him. He is fundamentally the angel of ‘warfare’ and ‘victory’.”
It was nearly impossible for Roy, a mere mortal, to achieve his goal, whether it was to attack the injured Metatron while Michael was focused on him, or to directly kill the victor, Michael.
“No good, Metatron is fleeing!!”
Finally, Roy was close to the two angels, but the scene unfolding before him shocked him. He never imagined that Metatron would choose to flee after getting injured.
The Earth was vast, and these two angels were incredibly fast. If Metatron fled and Michael gave chase, Roy would lose his target. Finding the two angels again on this Earth would be like a fool’s dream.
Furthermore, witnessing the battle of two disobedient gods was a rare sight. Although Roy’s memories of the events in the ‘Slayers’ world were hazy, he did remember that many Slayers achieved their first god-slaying by taking advantage of a situation where two disobedient gods were fighting each other.
In other words—
“I can’t hesitate anymore, everything hinges on this!”
At that moment, Roy abandoned all his rational thoughts, becoming a complete fool. He pulled the original ‘Book of Law’ from his pocket, the only item he brought from the Toaru Majutsu no Index world.
“Michael!!!”
He charged forward, enduring the sandstorm like blades, and screamed at Michael, who was about to catch up to Metatron.
The act of slaying a god was at stake!
