Chapter 4
Sakurajima Mai's Confession

“To explain it scientifically, Miss Mai is currently in an uncertain state of quantum superposition. Only when another person confirms your ‘state’ can you escape from the superposition.”

Sakurajima Mai nodded, seemingly understanding. “But according to your theory, you have already seen me, which confirms my existence. Others should be able to see me too, right?”

Sakurajima Mai walked in front of other passengers on the train and waved in front of them.

The passengers did not react.

Sakurajima Mai sat back down next to Yan Xi, silently looking at him, her expression saying ‘continue your performance’.

Yan Xi stroked his chin and said, “Maybe I’m special?”

Sakurajima Mai: “…”

Ignoring Sakurajima Mai’s resentful gaze, Yan Xi said, “Let’s not get into the details yet. Miss Mai, have you noticed the range of your ‘disappearance’?”

Sakurajima Mai nodded. The range of her disappearance was expanding, and more and more people couldn’t see her.

“If I’m not mistaken…”

“Wait a minute.”

Sakurajima Mai interrupted Yan Xi.

“Don’t stall in the middle of something important!” Yan Xi complained.

It’s really annoying when you want to say something but have to stop halfway.

“We’ve arrived at the station, get off.” Sakurajima Mai said.

The train arrived at Shichirigahama Station.

“I’d rather go to Kamakura…” Yan Xi protested, but was still taken off the train by Sakurajima Mai.

The sea breeze carried the scent of the ocean, salty. Sadly, there wasn’t any specific seaweed here.

“This is your first time by the sea, what are your thoughts?” Sakurajima Mai stood next to Yan Xi, her hands behind her back. The youthful energy of a girl was evident.

Yan Xi glanced at her. The arrogant senior sister was bathed in sunlight, as if she were gilded, there were no other words to describe her but beautiful.

Of course, that was a filter effect.

The sun at one or two in the afternoon would only make you sweat, not the sunset.

“Nothing special,” Yan Xi said, “but maybe I’ll come often in the future.”

“Is that so.” Sakurajima Mai’s lips curved upwards. A trip to the seaside seemed to have healed her as well.

Since she began to ‘disappear’, she had been facing it alone.

She didn’t have anyone to confide in, and no one who could say ‘don’t worry, I’m here’ to her.

Without a doubt, this was the most vulnerable stage in Sakurajima Mai’s heart.

Yan Xi, who had known her for less than two hours, gave her a subtle sense of security.

This unfounded feeling could only be explained by intuition.

“When did your condition start, Miss Mai?” Yan Xi asked.

“Probably around the beginning of Golden Week.”

Golden Week was a four-day consecutive holiday in Japan from late April to early May, about 10 days long.

It was now mid-May. From the time Sakurajima Mai first disappeared to now, about 20 days had passed?

The situation was not optimistic.

Yan Xi said, “It’s been tough these past few days, right?”

“Huh? Why are you suddenly saying that?”

It felt a little creepy for someone you’d known for two hours to suddenly say something so presumptuous.

“I thought you might be moved.”

“Do you think I’m a kid!” Sakurajima Mai crossed her arms and snorted.

Besides being creepy, Yan Xi’s words did… have a bit of an effect.

Sakurajima Mai wasn’t sure if Yan Xi could solve her problem, but this short trip to just a few train stations was also a form of redemption.

Having someone to confide in made Sakurajima Mai feel much better.

The two walked along the Shichirigahama beach. Sakurajima Mai took off her shoes and socks, and walked barefoot on the waves.

It was hard for Yan Xi not to look twice, because a certain master had said that a girl taking off her socks was too erotic!

Looking at Sakurajima Mai playing in the water, he couldn’t tell who was the one who came to play.

There were street vendors on the beach. Yan Xi went and bought two ice creams.

Sakurajima Mai followed him barefoot, and they found a spot to sit down and chat.

“You’re weird.” Sakurajima Mai said.

“How so?”

“Would a normal person be so calm when faced with a supernatural event?”

“Can’t argue with that.”

Sakurajima Mai had revealed her hand. Now it was Yan Xi’s turn, otherwise they couldn’t establish mutual trust.

“There’s an urban legend online called ‘Puberty Syndrome’. It’s a series of supernatural phenomena caused by the complex psychological state of teenagers during puberty.”

“As we all know, urban legends in this country are all true.”

“Miss Mai’s situation is a type of Puberty Syndrome.”

Sakurajima Mai asked, “Why do you know so much about this?”

“I just happen to know about it.” Yan Xi said.

He let go of the ice cream in his hand. It paused in mid-air for a few seconds.

Sakurajima Mai looked at him in surprise.

“After all, I’m not an ordinary person either. Now I’m convincing, right?”

This display of what looked like telekinesis was actually just White Platinum holding the ice cream.

He also took this opportunity to test that Puberty Syndrome patients couldn’t see Stands.

“You also have Puberty Syndrome?” Sakurajima Mai couldn’t help but ask.

“Not that, just a simple superpower.”

He was putting on an act.

Sakurajima Mai was a little broken.

Some people were troubled by supernatural events, while others were superpowers.

“Are there many… superpowers like you?”

Yan Xi said, “At least I haven’t seen any others so far.”

“But there are quite a few Puberty Syndrome patients like Miss Mai.”

Sakurajima Mai was conflicted. Should she be happy to know that there were other ‘patients’ like her?

“This is just my speculation. Miss Mai’s situation is related to the atmosphere at your school.”

This speculation was purely bullshit. It was all based on the experience of having read the original novel.

“How do you know about my situation at school?” Sakurajima Mai’s brows furrowed slightly.

“It’s obvious.” Yan Xi said as if it were a matter of course.

Sakurajima Mai didn’t know what Yan Xi meant by ‘obvious’, but it probably wasn’t good.

“She’s being deliberately ignored by the students at school. Everyone’s wishes have created an atmosphere of ‘Sakurajima Mai doesn’t exist’.”

“Once an atmosphere is formed, it’s hard to change. Most people are just ordinary people who follow the atmosphere.”

Sakurajima Mai didn’t understand: “Just the school atmosphere, could it really do that?”

“The key is Puberty Syndrome. The atmosphere is just the trigger.” Yan Xi narrowed his eyes, “Minamihama High School is special, it’s even considered a singularity. The probability of Puberty Syndrome occurring in this school is very high.”
