Chapter 5
Ollivanders Wand Shop

Outside Gringotts, Ethan played with the gold Galleon in his hand, looking at Professor McGonagall with some doubts.

“Professor McGonagall, is there gold in this Galleon?”

“I don’t know. The currency of the wizarding world is forged by goblins, with the addition of magic, such as making it always bright, preventing the use of the 'Flying Charm', wear and tear, and so on.”

After finishing her words, Professor McGonagall sighed inwardly. This child is probably going to Ravenclaw, too fond of exploring.

Forget it, let’s do some “zero yuan purchase”!

Ethan immediately made up his mind.

Led by Professor McGonagall, the two walked through Diagon Alley and soon arrived at the entrance of a small, dilapidated shop.

Compared to Gringotts, it was completely different.

“Don’t worry, the craftsmanship of the Ollivander family is reliable. For many years, almost all the wizards of Hogwarts have bought their wands from this family.”

Thinking that Ethan was scared by the old and dilapidated shop, Professor McGonagall had to explain it, then led the way inside.

Inside the shop, Ethan looked around and saw that it was filled with long paper boxes, almost reaching the ceiling. This made the already small shop seem even more cramped.

“Good morning!”

Hearing the noise, Ollivander came out from behind the pile of wands, a kind smile on his face.

“Nine and a half inches, Fir, dragon heartstring, delicate and elegant, suitable for wizards with strong willpower and Transfiguration talent, Minerva, it’s like it happened yesterday when you bought your wand here.”

Ollivander’s old habit came back again. As long as he had sold wands, he would remember everything clearly and habitually recall the scene.

“Good morning, Garrick. That was decades ago.”

Professor McGonagall looked helpless. She heard this at least once a year.

“The little wizard behind you, can you tell me your name and take a step forward.”

After greeting each other, Ollivander was ready to get down to business.

In his opinion, finding a qualified partner for each wand he made by hand was the happiest thing.

“Ethan Adrian!”

After shouting his name, Ethan took a step forward and stood in front of Ollivander.

“Which hand do you use?”

“My right hand, sir!”

Ethan cooperated and answered, raising his right hand to facilitate the measurement of the magic-enchanted ruler on his body.

I don’t know what the significance of this measurement is. It is eleven years old. The growth potential of the wizard is high.

Looking at the measured data, Ollivander turned to the counter behind him and returned with a large stack of boxes shortly afterwards.

Ollivander put down the wand box and looked at Ethan seriously.

“Every wand is unique. It’s not the wizard who chooses the wand, but the wand who chooses the wizard.”

“Mr. Adrian, try this one, apple wood, unicorn hair, nine inches long, suitable for wizards who have lofty ideals and pursuits. Give it a try.”

Saying that, Ollivander handed the wand in his hand to Ethan.

Ethan took it in his hand and waved it lightly. The next moment, the wand box on the right side of the shop collapsed with a bang, scattering a lot of dust.

“Cough! It seems this one is not it.”

“Repair!”

After taking the wand in Ethan’s hand, Ollivander waved the wand in his hand lightly, and then the collapsed wand boxes floated up one after another and returned to their original positions.

“It’s okay, it’s all normal. Try this one!”

“Redwood, dragon heartstring, eleven and a half inches. This is a wand that can bring good luck. Plus dragon heartstring, which has great power, a great combination.”

After comforting Ethan, Ollivander immediately handed the next wand to Ethan.

Ethan took the wand and felt a burning sensation in his palm.

He waved it lightly in the same way as before.

A ball of red flames suddenly shot out from the top of the wand, almost burning Ollivander’s white hair.

Ollivander touched his white hair, but didn’t say anything, and quickly took the wand in Ethan’s hand.

“Cedar wood, phoenix feather, ten and three-quarters inches, suitable for wizards with sharp insight.”

This time, when handing the wand to Ethan, Ollivander obviously stepped back two steps.

Bang!

A vase of unknown age next to it shattered.

After a skilled repair spell, Ollivander drew out another wand and handed it to Ethan.

“Boom!”

“Try this one again.”

“Crack!”

“Well, a picky customer. Try this one.”

For almost an hour, Ethan tried dozens of wands.

Some made a little noise, and some were taken away by Ollivander as soon as they were taken in hand, saying that they were “not suitable” for him.

But some wands felt very comfortable in Ethan’s hand. The magic flowed quickly. In Ethan’s perception, he could easily use the Petrification Curse and energy absorption that he had learned, but Ollivander still thought it was not suitable.

“Mr. Adrian, please wait a moment. I know what wand is right for you.”

Saying that, Ollivander turned and walked towards the warehouse behind him.

If it were a normal businessman, facing such a picky customer, he would have already begun to chase him away, but Ollivander would not. On the contrary, he was enjoying it.

Being able to find a matching wand for a picky customer was a very fulfilling thing for him.

The wands Ethan had just tried were all mainstream in Britain, that is, unicorn hair, phoenix feather, dragon heartstring, these three core materials.

These are also the core materials that Ollivander likes to use. In theory, these three materials meet almost everyone’s needs.

Unicorn hair, can reflect the essence of magic, and is not easily affected by other magic, with the characteristics of loyalty and stability. The only drawback is that it is not good at using dark magic.

Phoenix feather, the range of magic cast is wide, and it has a certain initiative. However, phoenix feather wands are very picky and not easy to tame.

Dragon heartstring, this is simple and brutal. The spells cast are the most powerful and the most dazzling, but the disadvantage is that it is easy to succumb to dark magic and is not very stable.

In addition to these three core wands, Ollivander actually used other materials, which is also a way to learn from other wand makers and connect himself with the world.

For example, the tail feather of a Thunderbird, the horn of a horn rabbit, the fur of a leopard cat, the hair of a Veela, the mane of a kelpie, the beard of a troll, the tail feather of a Thestral, the horn of a horned viper, etc.
