Chapter 5
The Bet

With Ding Dian's directions, the car quickly arrived at the bottom of their apartment building.

"Satisfied now?" Ding Dian said, getting out of the car.

She turned to leave.

But Yang Yu, shameless as ever, followed her.

Ding Dian was completely speechless. She couldn't get rid of him, and if she fought back, she would probably end up at a disadvantage.

"Are you planning on going to my house for more coffee?" Ding Dian said loudly.

"Really? Okay! Okay, since you invited me, I won't be polite." Yang Yu said happily.

Seeing Ding Dian's dark face and her large, fierce eyes staring at him, he laughed. "Haha! Just kidding. Why are you so serious?"

"To tell you the truth, I also live here. What a coincidence, right?"

Yang Yu shrugged and smiled.

Ding Dian blinked and stared at Yang Yu, saying, "Look at me, does my face say 'idiot' or 'fool'? Who are you trying to fool with this nonsense?"

"I've lived here for a few years. While I don't know all the neighbors, I wouldn't have completely missed you. Do you really think I'm an idiot?"

"How about we make a bet?" Yang Yu said.

"Bet? Bet on what?" Ding Dian asked curiously.

"Let's bet whether or not I really live here, okay?" Yang Yu said with a smile.

Now, Ding Dian hesitated.

Could he really live here? It shouldn't be possible, how come I've never seen him? Did he just move in? No, there hasn't been anyone moving into this building recently.

Ding Dian secretly pondered, while she looked Yang Yu up and down.

Seeing Ding Dian's silence, Yang Yu chuckled, "What? Scared? Chicken?"

"Who are you calling a chicken? Bet's on, I'm not afraid!" Ding Dian exclaimed. Even though she knew Yang Yu was provoking her, she couldn't resist.

"But we need to agree first. It has to be this building."

"Okay, no problem." Yang Yu said easily.

After a moment's thought, Ding Dian continued, "Staying at a friend's place also counts as a loss for you."

"Alright," Yang Yu readily agreed.

Now Ding Dian hesitated even more.

Seeing her hesitation, Yang Yu said, "I'm on the same floor as you, right across from your apartment. Do you believe me?"

"The couple across from me is middle-aged. I wouldn't have missed them. I even saw them yesterday when I got off work," Ding Dian said.

"So, are you going to bet or not? Give me a straight answer," Yang Yu said arrogantly.

"What's the bet?" Ding Dian asked.

"Alright, if I lose, I'll unconditionally agree to do anything you want, anything."

"And if you lose...hehe!"

Yang Yu dragged out the sound, then his eyes darted around Ding Dian's chest.

Ding Dian covered her chest with both hands, and said unhappily, "Don't push it, I'm warning you."

"Then...a kiss, okay?" Yang Yu asked.

"Dream on." Ding Dian resolutely said.

"How about we go to your place for a cup of coffee and talk about life's ideals?" Yang Yu suggested again.

"Don't even think about it. I'm telling you, if you keep this up, I'm not betting, hmph! Live wherever you want, it's not like you're my son, I don't care if you live here or not." Ding Dian said stubbornly, playing the spoiled child card.

At the same time, she was also having second thoughts.

Seeing Ding Dian directly confront him, Yang Yu almost choked on his own blood.

Noticing that Ding Dian seemed to be genuinely reconsidering, Yang Yu, unable to bear the confrontation, quickly said, "Just kidding, ha! Why are you angry? This lowly one apologizes to Your Highness."

Mimicking the eunuchs of ancient times, Yang Yu performed a bizarre bow to Ding Dian.

"Pfft..."

Ding Dian couldn't hold it anymore and burst into laughter.

Through studying the plot and his interactions with Ding Dian over the past few days, Yang Yu had basically figured out her personality.

Ding Dian was a typical Northern woman, very straightforward, honest, sharp-tongued but kind-hearted, and very prideful.

This kind of girl, when angry, could be easily coaxed with a few sweet words.

Didn't the original plot show that after breaking up with Yu Fei, she quickly got back together with him? If Yu Fei had just apologized, they would have reconciled immediately.

For Yang Yu, sweet words don't cost anything.

As for losing face? Not a chance. Getting the girl is the greatest face-saver.

The same goes for Lin Jia and Meng Yun. One thought he wouldn't leave, the other thought he would stay.

In the end, both were too concerned about saving face, which led to their separation.

Yang Yu remembered that when he was in college, his roommate had told him about the three key rules for chasing girls, summarized by some unknown sage: Boldness, attentiveness, and thick skin.

And the most important one was thick skin.

"If you lose, let's add each other on WeChat. How about that?" Yang Yu said.

"That's fine, but if you lose, you really have to do anything I want? Can I ask you to die, haha?" Ding Dian said with a smile.

"Yes, if you win, I'll jump off this building. Deal?" Yang Yu said, rolling his eyes.

"Okay, it's a deal."

The guy had already said so much, what else could she say but agree?
