Chapter 5
Mental Calculation

Daxing Village was located at the very edge of the city, with a mountain behind it. It was barely a hill, just a bit higher than the flat ground.

However, the environment was still pretty good, a place where the village’s elderly and children would often go for walks and play.

Huff, huff!

Luo Chuan bent over, his hands on his knees, gasping for air. He could clearly feel a burning sensation in his chest every time he inhaled.

“It’s not for nothing that my Running LV1 is at 68/100. I’ve only run about a kilometer and I’m already in this state. It shows just how weak my body is.”

Luo Chuan muttered to himself, taking a moment to rest before continuing his jog. He knew running wasn’t just a casual activity; it required a certain distance to gain experience. There was no way to slack off.

Today was the first day, so he treated it as a warm-up. He would gradually increase the intensity later.

After running about three kilometers, Luo Chuan was sweating profusely, and the muscles in his limbs were aching so badly that walking felt shaky, as if he could collapse at any moment.

But he had at least achieved his goal for the day. The “Running +10” on his system panel was the greatest encouragement he could get.

Besides, a few tips on long-distance running techniques appeared in his mind. He tried them out and the burning sensation in his chest subsided considerably.

When he returned to the village, Luo Chuan happened to run into Tu Jun, who was squatting by the gate brushing his teeth.

Tu Jun was startled when he saw Luo Chuan, then he greeted him, asking in a muffled voice,

“Chuan, where did you go?”

“Dog Brother, I went running in the back mountain,” Luo Chuan said weakly.

Tu Jun was so shocked at hearing Luo Chuan went running that he nearly swallowed the toothpaste foam. He looked at Luo Chuan with a strange expression,

“You’re so skinny, why did you go running?”

Luo Chuan didn’t mind Dog Brother’s “insult”. He knew Tu Jun was the type who spoke before thinking.

“It’s because my body is weak, so I want to exercise.”

“I’m going back. I’m all sweaty.”

Without waiting for Tu Jun to say anything else, Luo Chuan turned and walked towards his house.

After Luo Chuan left, a burly man walked out of the house behind him, wearing a dirty work uniform, with dark stains that could have been blood or something else.

“You little rascal, who were you talking to?” Tu Fu asked casually.

Tu Jun spat out the water in his mouth, looking dissatisfied.

“I’ve told you so many times, don’t call me a little rascal.”

“Fine, fine, I won’t,” Tu Fu replied nonchalantly.

Tu Jun was somewhat helpless. He was already grown up, and if others heard his father calling him a little rascal, how could he maintain his cool image in school?

“That was Chuan, he went running earlier. I was just asking.”

Hearing that it was Luo Chuan, Tu Fu glanced in the direction of Luo Chuan’s house, then slapped Tu Jun’s head,

“You little rascal, don’t you dare bully Chuan, you hear me?”

Tu Jun looked indignant and said with displeasure,

“When have I ever bullied Chuan?”

“No better,”

Tu Fu snorted, hung his old wallet on his waist, and said,

“I’m going to buy pork today, I’ll be back in the afternoon. Figure out your own lunch.”

“Alright, alright,” Tu Jun said impatiently.

After returning home, Luo Chuan washed his face and rested for a while, then he went to the market to buy some groceries.

He passed by Jiao Dad’s noodle shop and was invited to have breakfast, but he declined.

After all, cooking could increase his experience, and his current goal was to maximize his skill levels and get rewards. So, he wouldn’t neglect cooking skills.

Reaching the market, Luo Chuan skillfully bought some vegetables, then, after some thought, he bought some pork. He was exercising, and he needed to eat nutritiously.

Originally, Luo Chuan intended to buy some ingredients for braising, wanting to try out the secret braising seasoning he got as a reward. But seeing that the formula required numerous ingredients, including several kinds of herbs, he temporarily abandoned the idea, deciding to buy them separately in a future visit.

Back home, there was a rhythmic chopping sound coming from the kitchen. After preparing all the ingredients, he started to stir-fry.

As the vegetables were added to the hot oil, a sizzling sound filled the kitchen, along with the aroma of stir-fried dishes.

In a short while, a plate of chili stir-fried pork and tomato scrambled eggs were ready.

Cooking LV2: 31/1000

“It seems the amount of experience gained from cooking depends on the complexity of the dish.”

Luo Chuan muttered as he looked at his system panel. He tasted the food, the flavor was okay, certainly not as good as those professional chefs, but it was more than enough for him to eat.

He finished the two dishes and two steamed buns in a whirlwind, feeling a satisfying fullness in his stomach, and then wobbled into the kitchen to wash the dishes.

After cleaning up the kitchen, Luo Chuan walked around the living room for a while, then dug out a large pile of textbooks from under his bed.

Yes, textbooks. These were Luo Chuan’s high school textbooks from his freshman year.

Apart from some stains and damage on the covers, the inside was still as white as snow, with few signs of use.

Looking at the familiar textbooks under his feet, Luo Chuan’s eyes flashed with a hint of self-mockery.

In his previous life, how much he hated school, and how much he regretted it after entering society. For ordinary people like them, the college entrance examination was not the only way out, but it was the fairest way.

Even though he was reborn with the help of the system, Luo Chuan had never given up the idea of taking the college entrance examination.

But thinking about the time he wasted in the past, Luo Chuan wished he could go back in time and strangle the past version of himself who spent his days eating and doing nothing.

“It’s good that it’s not too late. I’ll be starting my second semester of sophomore year after school starts. With the help of the system, I can definitely regain my high school knowledge before then.”

With this thought, Luo Chuan immediately sorted out all the textbooks and placed them under his desk.

Since Luo Chuan majored in science, besides the three main subjects of Chinese, math, and English, he also studied physics, biology, and chemistry.

Looking at the panel, except for Chinese and English, which had reached LV2, the rest were still hovering at LV1, and they were still some distance from reaching LV2, which showed how terrible Luo Chuan’s studies were.

“Sigh, take it slow.”

Then, Luo Chuan picked up his freshman year’s math textbook and started to go through it page by page. Fortunately, he had a foundation from his previous life, even if he had forgotten, he could recall it quickly, so his learning efficiency was not bad.

After that, Luo Chuan completely entered a state of learning, only emerging when his stomach started to growl.

【Math + 17】

Luo Chuan nodded with satisfaction, seeing that math was about to reach LV2, the progress was pretty good.

He made himself a hearty lunch, then returned to his desk, determined to push math to LV2 today.
