Chapter 34: The Peril of the Heaven-Mending Pavilion
Within the Azure-Tour Palace, Tongtian, contrary to his usual habits, was not reclining on his cloud bed.
His eyes seemed to contain revolving stars, with countless Dao principles engraved within them.
“I wonder how far you can go.”
“Don’t let this seat down, child.”
Tongtian muttered to himself, gazing towards the direction of Three Immortal Island.
“This seat’s hope…”
“The hope of the Intercessory Sect…”
Tongtian’s voice grew fainter, becoming almost inaudible.
Meanwhile, Shi Chen returned to the Perfect Great World.
Upon returning, Shi Chen suddenly found himself understanding aspects of the Intercessory Sword Dao that had previously eluded him.
This filled him with reassurance.
He knew his approach was working.
However, before Shi Chen could celebrate for long, he noticed an oppressive atmosphere in the Heaven-Mending Pavilion, a stark contrast to its usual vibrant energy.
What was going on?
Curiosity piqued, Shi Chen summoned Shi Qingfeng.
“Qingfeng, what happened? Why does everyone look so tense?”
Shi Chen asked curiously.
“Senior Brother, you’re finally back.”
Seeing Shi Chen, Shi Qingfeng, who had been slightly flustered, immediately felt reassured and quickly replied.
“This morning, the Ancient Sacrificial Spirit withered.”
“Now, rumors are circulating that our Heaven-Mending Pavilion is about to be destroyed, and many major forces are preparing to attack us.”
“Many disciples have already left the Pavilion.”
“The Ancient Sacrificial Spirit withered?”
Shi Chen had a moment of realization.
Was this the original plotline for the Heaven-Mending Pavilion’s downfall?
In the original story, the Pavilion’s demise occurred before Shi Hao’s journey to the Stone Kingdom.
However, this time, due to Shi Chen’s intervention, Shi Hao had become even stronger and had left for the Stone Kingdom earlier than expected.
This caused Shi Chen to momentarily forget about the Ancient Sacrificial Spirit withering.
The Ancient Sacrificial Spirit was an ancient vine that had ignited Divine Fire, the Pavilion’s greatest source of strength.
Without the Ancient Sacrificial Spirit, the Heaven-Mending Pavilion would be seen as a juicy target by other major forces.
Shi Chen was curious, however. Didn’t everyone know about his slaying of the Golden Spider Venerable?
How could they dare to be so audacious and attack the Pavilion?
In truth, news of the Golden Spider Venerable’s death at Shi Chen’s hands had spread throughout the eight realms of the Lower World.
However, most people believed that Shi Chen had used a treasure to achieve this feat by surprise attack.
It was likely that this treasure was a one-time use item, or if not, its use would have been highly costly.
They couldn’t believe that someone could effortlessly slay a Venerable in the Array Formation Realm.
Their assault was twofold: to destroy the Heaven-Mending Pavilion and to extinguish this young genius in his cradle.
Yet, the Pavilion remained completely unaware of the impending danger.
They believed that major forces would maintain a semblance of decorum and wouldn’t go to such lengths.
Besides, the Heaven-Mending Pavilion had been established for so many years, how could it possibly be so easily destroyed?
But soon, a horrifying piece of news arrived, sending shockwaves through the entire Pavilion.
The Pavilion Master’s face turned pale upon hearing it.
Ancestral Master Mu Yan, who was usually filled with electricity and roared like a furious lion, was consumed by unbridled madness.
Even Old Man Liu, who always appeared drowsy, was filled with fury, his eyes radiating an intimidating glow.
The Heaven-Mending Pavilion’s seven outposts established in the Lower World had been eradicated, four out of seven.
All disciples and elders within those outposts were lost.
These outposts were hidden sanctuaries, their coordinates unknown to outsiders, making them virtually inaccessible.
They were one of the Pavilion’s trump cards, retreats and strongholds in one.
Yet, four had been destroyed.
This undoubtedly indicated a traitor within the Pavilion’s high ranks.
No, they might even have been spies from other factions all along.
The Pavilion’s operating structure made it extremely easy for spies to infiltrate.
With four outposts destroyed, the remaining three became vulnerable.
This placed the Heaven-Mending Pavilion in a desperate situation.
What made it all the more unbearable was the betrayal by their own.
In truth, Shi Chen had warned the Pavilion Master beforehand, but the Master refused to believe that there were traitors amongst the Pavilion’s high ranks and did not take any preventative measures.
This led to this tragic situation.
The years of peaceful existence had caused them to lose their sense of urgency.
At this moment, countless troops had surrounded the Heaven-Mending Pavilion, sealing off the area. Array formations shimmered in the sky, blocking off the void, preventing anyone within the Pavilion from making their escape.
They clearly aimed to eliminate everyone.
“Boom!”
A terrifying aura descended upon the Pavilion.
A giant bird revealed its unparalleled might, the Heaven-Devouring Sparrow, one of the Great Wilderness’s ferocious beasts.
The Heaven-Devouring Sparrow displayed its power without reservation, a Venerable Realm entity!
In the past, when the Ancient Vine was still alive, the Heaven-Devouring Sparrow dared not approach the Pavilion, but now it was so audacious and uninhibited.
“Today is the day your Heaven-Mending Pavilion will be destroyed!”
The Heaven-Devouring Sparrow declared triumphantly.
“All of you, are you, as human beings, going to collude with this ancient beast to destroy our Heaven-Mending Pavilion?!”
The Heaven-Mending Pavilion Master soared into the sky, roaring at the surrounding forces.
