He walked into the house.
The fireplace burning with flames instantly warmed his slightly cold body.
Rod subtly sized up the simple wooden cabin.
A sofa, a bed, a table, a few stools, and a partition.
It was quite simply furnished.
“Have some water, warm yourself up.”
The old man enthusiastically invited Rod to sit, then walked to the inner room and brought out a cup of hot water.
Rod frowned, instantly feeling a bit wary.
In this wild and remote place, he encountered a stranger who was so welcoming.
Something wasn’t right!
Moreover, werewolves roamed nearby, and yet an old man could still live alone in the forest.
The whole situation felt strange inside and out.
Rod took the hot tea and placed it on the table without a trace of suspicion.
“Is there a town nearby?”
Seeing that Rod didn't drink the tea, the smile on the old man’s face faltered.
“It’s so late, the town should already be asleep. Why don’t you stay here for the night and leave tomorrow?”
Stay for the night?
Rod’s lips twitched, his gaze sweeping across the room.
No matter how he looked at it, this room didn't seem big enough for two people to sleep.
“No, thank you.”
Rod decisively declined.
Seeing that Rod had no intention of staying, the old man looked a bit helpless.
He could only point Rod in a direction.
“Just keep walking forward from here, you’ll see the village soon.”
“But there are dangerous wild animals in the forest, I suggest you wait until dawn before leaving.”
Wild animals?
What kind of wild animal could be more dangerous than a werewolf.
Rod didn't take the old man’s advice to heart, thanked him, and left directly.
The old man stood outside the house, watching Rod disappear into the darkness before slowly retracting his gaze.
“Clever little fella.”
...
He left the cabin.
After about twenty minutes, a village with bright lights came into view.
As he approached the village, Rod’s expression became strange.
Outside the small village, there was a thick layer of wall, with a torch every few meters on the wall.
Countless torches encircled the entire village.
It looked like they were trying to ward off something.
“Who’s there?!”
Rod had just emerged from the darkness when a group of militiamen patrolling within the walls heard his voice.
For a moment, several pairs of nervous and fearful eyes turned towards him.
“Don’t be alarmed, I’m just a passerby.”
Rod walked to the light, stating openly.
“Passerby?”
Seeing that it was an ordinary human, the several militiamen breathed a sigh of relief.
However, they immediately became wary again.
“How did you get through this forest so late at night?”
“Of course I walked over.”
Looking at those wary eyes, Rod’s expression was a little helpless.
“Walked over? Didn’t you encounter anything… strange?”
The militiamen leader pondered for a moment and asked ambiguously.
“You mean those creatures who can turn into wolves? I did encounter one, but I killed it.”
Rod thought for a moment and decided to tell the truth.
Werewolves and humans were obviously hostile camps.
He had killed a werewolf, even if he wasn't regarded as a hero by these natives, he could at least get their favor.
“Killed?”
Hearing Rod’s words, the militiamen on the wall all showed expressions of disbelief.
As people who had been dealing with werewolves for years, no one knew better than them how terrifying a werewolf’s strength was.
Even with flame and holy silver to restrain the werewolf, it would take ten experienced hunters to surround and kill one.
And at least half of them would die.
One person could kill a werewolf?
Impossible!
As the group of militiamen questioned, a shrill howl suddenly came from the darkness.
“A-woo!”
Hearing this sound, the several militiamen immediately became nervous.
“It’s a werewolf, you get in quickly!”
“Ring the bell, we’ve encountered a werewolf!”
As the several militiamen panicked, a werewolf covered in fur charged out of the tangled bushes.
Its blood-red eyes looked at the humans inside the wall, and a crazy bloodthirsty look flashed in its eyes.
“This werewolf isn’t afraid of fire!”
“It must have been starving for too long, prepare for battle!”
“Stranger, come over here, don’t be a fool!”
Several fully armed militiamen first rang the alarm bell, then tremblingly raised their weapons, preparing to fight this starving werewolf.
Even if they died here, they would have to hold off this werewolf.
Otherwise, once the werewolf broke into the village, it wouldn’t be just one or two people who died.
At this time, the militiamen leader was surprised to discover.
The strange-looking young man outside the wall, not only did not hide inside the wall, but instead walked towards the werewolf.
Was he going to commit suicide?
Looking at Rod who was already clashing with the werewolf, the several militiamen seemed to have already seen the cruel scene of the stranger being bitten off his head by the werewolf.
They were about to turn their heads away.
What happened next, however, made the several militiamen widen their eyes in disbelief.
Bang!
A muffled sound.
The werewolf with a face full of madness, the moment it got close to the stranger, was pressed down on the head by a hand and slammed heavily to the ground.
The werewolf, nearly two and a half meters tall, and Rod, less than two meters tall.
It was like a giant and an under-developed child.
Fragile and vulnerable.
But this seemingly fragile young man was like a devil possessed at this moment.
He pressed the werewolf down to the ground with one hand, unable to move.
Rod’s expression was indifferent, he pulled a short-barreled shotgun from under his trench coat, and drew a cross on the enraged werewolf’s head.
“May God bless you, Amen!”
