Chapter 20
All Schemes, All Bitches

“I’ll keep watch tonight, you sleep in the tent.” Mo Yi quickly set up the tent. After setting it up, he didn’t go inside but gestured for Mo Luo Xue to do so.

“What do you mean?” Mo Luo Xue managed to suppress her anger at Mo Yi’s previous “indecent” actions towards her. She looked at Mo Yi, who appeared on high alert, and felt extremely curious.

“Nothing, it’s just that when you’re sleeping in the wilderness, you have to have someone keep watch. You’re my sister, so it’s only right that your brother takes the hit. Besides, if you don’t sleep, you’ll become ugly, and I won’t want you anymore.” Mo Yi said nonchalantly. After finishing the tent, he sat down by the bonfire and kept adding wood to keep the fire going.

Mo Luo Xue didn’t say anything. As she looked at Mo Yi, a flicker of strangeness appeared in her eyes. But soon, she shook her head and dismissed that impossible thought.

“Since you want to blow cold wind yourself, then be it.” Mo Luo Xue didn’t look at Mo Yi again. She turned around, her hand flicking as she slapped against the joints of the tent, taking down the tent that Mo Yi had set up. While Mo Yi was still stunned, she quickly rebuilt the tent. The methods and steps were exactly the same as Mo Yi’s before! Mo Luo Xue had just glanced at it once and remembered it.

“Like brother, like sister.” Mo Yi nodded thoughtfully.

After Mo Luo Xue’s version of the tent was built, Mo Luo Xue didn’t even spare Mo Yi a glance as she went inside. She lifted the tent’s curtain, blocking outside view.

Suddenly, Mo Luo Xue froze once she entered the tent. She sniffed delicately. The tent was filled with the scent of lavender. It was the sleep-inducing fragrance she always lit before bed. Mo Yi had actually used the fragrance to scent this tent.

Mo Yi sat by the bonfire, idly drawing on the ground. Based on the fragmented memories in his body, he still understood some of Mo Luo Xue’s interests, including the scent of lavender. This must be considered a way to gain favor, not the strange “brother protecting sister” mentality at work… definitely not!

In the tent, Mo Luo Xue took off her outer clothing, leaving behind a single thin sleepwear. She covered herself with the blanket and closed her eyes. Her long eyelashes fluttered slightly. It wasn’t that she absolutely needed the scent of lavender to fall asleep, but in her memory, lavender was the scent of her mother.

“Goodnight.” Mo Luo Xue said in a low voice, but she didn’t know who she was addressing.

Mo Yi played with a wooden stick. He looked at the roaring bonfire, and sparks of thought occasionally appeared in his eyes.

He had basically confirmed that the “Brother Yan” who had come to bother them before was not as simple as he seemed on the surface.

A rural peasant? Who are you kidding?

Mo Yi couldn’t help but let out a scornful sneer. Perhaps this “Brother Yan” could deceive Mo Luo Xue, or perhaps deceive others, but he would never deceive Mo Yi, whose observation of details was terrifyingly precise.

When Mo Yi first saw “Brother Yan,” his psychologist’s occupational hazard made him suspicious because the weathered face and the person’s actions didn’t match up at all.

On “Brother Yan,” Mo Yi felt a strange sense of incongruity, so he kept subtly probing “Brother Yan” during their conversation.

Finally, when Mo Luo Xue asked for him to leave, Mo Yi had determined “Brother Yan’s” identity.

“Xiao Jia, Xiao Yan, is that you?” Mo Yi played with the twin-fish jade pendant, a playful expression appearing on his face.

Suspicion one, Brother Yan’s facial expressions were slightly stiff, and his sharp eyes were not something a rural peasant would possess. In those eyes, Mo Yi saw something that Mo Tianjiao had once described to him: a lion, fierce and bloody!

Suspicion two, Brother Yan’s physical condition. He went through the thorn forest without any armor and only got a little blood? What a joke! If it was an ordinary person, the hard thorns would have scraped off all their flesh. Although Brother Yan appeared to be horribly wounded, in reality, it was all superficial. Moreover, Mo Yi couldn’t believe how quickly his blood stopped.

Suspicion three, those relatively intact shoes. Mo Yi observed Mo Luo Xue’s shoes, his own shoes, and Brother Yan’s shoes. Out of the three pairs, only his shoes, which belonged to someone with no martial arts skills, were damaged. Mo Luo Xue’s and Brother Yan’s shoes were undamaged, only a little worn. This could only be achieved by someone with martial arts skills. A former good-for-nothing suddenly awakened a talent and then rushed to the Immortal Gate, it was simply the most normal thing in the world.

Suspicion four, that accent, which was very similar but not authentic to the Yu family village dialect. Brother Yan had more than once changed his self-address from “俺家” (“My family”) to “我” (“I”). Would you inadvertently use your other hand when you were self-generating electricity? Mo Yi believed he would not abandon his right hand to pamper his left hand.

Suspicion five, Brother Yan tried hard to hide it, but Mo Yi discovered that he knew him and Mo Luo Xue. During their conversation, Brother Yan kept his peripheral vision focused on Mo Luo Xue. Ordinary people wouldn’t notice, but Mo Yi, a master psychologist, saw it clearly!

Suspicion six, Brother Yan’s reaction to Mo Luo Xue’s request to leave. There was hatred and dissatisfaction in his eyes, but also a trace of memory from a past scene.

Suspicion seven, Brother Yan was just a peasant, but he arrived abruptly and left decisively. His arrival was so sudden that even Mo Luo Xue, a martial arts prodigy, didn’t notice. His departure was so abrupt that he had no lingering attachment to the warm fire and plentiful food.

The last suspicion...Xiao Yan, Xiaoyan. Playing word games? Despising intelligence? Afraid that Mo Yi wouldn’t figure it out?

Considering all the suspicions, even if Brother Yan wasn’t the person Mo Yi guessed, something was fishy. At the very least, he was 90% not a peasant.

Mo Yi used his own greatest fears as a reference and unhesitatingly concluded that Brother Yan was actually the good-for-nothing young master, Xiao Yan, who had left the words “Thirty years in the east, thirty years in the west, don’t bully the young and poor” when Mo Luo Xue rejected his marriage proposal!

As for why Mo Luo Xue couldn’t recognize Xiao Yan’s face? The answer was simple: disguise. It also explained why Brother Yan’s movements and demeanor were so incongruous with his appearance.

“It’s not too difficult for someone with an old man in their life to learn some martial arts and disguise skills.” Mo Yi pondered slowly. “If he really is Xiao Yan, then naturally he has no intention of harming us. At most, he feels resentment. If my guess about his personality and him match up, then he should be a hardworking and self-reliant type. Xiao Yan’s danger level is downgraded to below Luohou. For now, he poses no threat to us.”

As for why Xiao Yan would appear here and coincidentally encounter them? The answer was simple: Immortal Gate! Immortal Gate!

If Mo Yi wasn’t mistaken, there were more than a few people in this vast primeval forest heading towards immortal destiny. They might be harmless, or they might be extremely dangerous. Mo Yi had to be on the highest alert at all times!

He had already placed thread around the surrounding forest, with small bells tied to the threads as warnings. He had made complete preparations.

As he looked at the bonfire, slowly, Mo Yi’s head drooped, and he fell asleep… He had planned everything out, but he had overlooked one thing, that he was just an ordinary person! Moreover, he was a pampered young master’s body. Staying up all night was simply impossible!
