【Task One: Participate in the Duel City Tournament. Reward: 500 Crystals. (Completed)】
Yu Xuan entered the system and claimed his reward from the "Completed Tasks" tab.
500 Crystals were credited to his account, and Yu Xuan immediately went to the card draw interface.
Crystals were the most important resource in the system, used for card draws, often yielding cards unavailable in this era.
"Why can't I draw from more series?"
Upon reaching the card draw interface, Yu Xuan was slightly disappointed. The system offered a decent card pool, but not as extensive as he had envisioned.
There were no Synchro decks, nor any series released afterwards.
He did have access to Heroes, Cyber Dragon, and other Fusion decks.
Yu Xuan pondered for a moment and chose to draw from the Gem-Knight deck. After all, his bonded card spirit was Gem-Knight White Crystal.
Rather than abandoning White Crystal and building a new deck, he decided to build a deck around White Crystal and bring his companions from the card pool.
"Ten draw directly!"
The system's cards were drawn in packs of three.
Each pack cost 50 Crystals.
Having decided on his deck, Yu Xuan didn't hesitate. He poured all his Crystals into the Gem-Knight series pack.
He wanted to see if he could draw anything good.
A brilliant light flashed in Yu Xuan's mind.
He felt ten thin packs appear before him, each bearing the Gem-Knight logo.
As the light flickered, the cards within the packs materialized in Yu Xuan's hands.
Yu Xuan regained his composure, feeling the weight in his hands, and began to count his draw results.
Monsters (14)
Gem-Knight Jadex1
Gem-Knight Lapisx3
Gem-Knight Lazulix3
Gem-Knight Onyx3
Gem-Armadillo3
Crystal Rose1
Spells (6)
Gem-Knight Fusionx3
Bright Fusionx3
Extra Deck Monsters (10)
Gem-Knight King Avionx2
Gem-Knight Lady Brilliantx1
Gem-Knight Replicax1
Gem-Knight Amethystx1
Gem-Knight Turquoisex3
Gem-Knight Malachitex2
After counting twice and confirming thirty cards, Yu Xuan breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed his system, though taciturn and uncommunicative, was reliable, not trying to scam him in this regard.
Yu-Gi-Oh rules dictated that only three copies of the same card could be included in a deck.
He had drawn a maximum of three duplicates of each card, meaning that once a card reached its limit, it wouldn't reappear, attempting to drain his Crystals.
This was good news, indicating that the system still had some basic integrity.
"I drew some good cards, but where's Gem-Knight Lady Alabaster?"
Having reviewed his draw results, Yu Xuan felt a tinge of regret. Gem-Knight Lady Alabaster was arguably the strongest card in the Gem-Knight series.
Its effect read: Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can activate this card by sending 1 Gem-Knight monster from your Deck or Extra Deck to the Graveyard. Inflict damage to your opponent equal to 500 x the number of Special Summoned monsters on the field.
This was a powerful effect, allowing direct damage without attacking.
If there were five Special Summoned monsters on the field, just two activations would be enough to eliminate an opponent with a starting life point of 4000.
It was a formidable effect, especially during the turn a Fusion Monster was Special Summoned, when the monster could not attack.
You could even build a deck around this effect, paving the way to victory.
"Oh well, no Alabaster, no Alabaster. As long as I complete the tasks in the Duderstadt, I'll do a few ten-draws. I don't believe I won't be able to draw Alabaster."
Yu Xuan uttered a cry of frustration, typical of an unlucky person.
He could tell his system had a guarantee mechanism.
Since there were only so many cards in a series, and only three copies of the same card could be drawn.
This meant, as long as you drew enough, you could brute force your way through the card pool, eventually obtaining the desired cards.
"All thirty cards are useful. Let's keep them all and replace the original deck."
Since he was now going to use a pure Gem-Knight deck, Yu Xuan took nine cards from his original deck and added them to the new one, along with Gem-Knight White Crystal.
As for the Extra Deck Fusion Monsters, he included all of them. After all, the Duel City Tournament didn't limit the number of Extra Deck monsters. The more, the merrier. Moreover, his Extra Deck wasn't even at fifteen cards yet.
As White Crystal was added to the deck, a radiant white light emerged.
White Crystal appeared, nodded to Yu Xuan, and uttered strange, melodious words from behind his armor.
Although Yu Xuan couldn't understand the strange language, he understood White Crystal's meaning in an instant.
The card spirit was expressing his gratitude to Yu Xuan, thanking him for gathering his comrades and ending his loneliness.
"Don't mention it. We're partners, after all. We help each other out."
Yu Xuan replied, unsure if White Crystal could understand him.
Captain White Crystal seemed to have grasped the meaning, gave Yu Xuan a thumbs up, and returned to his card.
"It seems choosing the Gem-Knight deck was the right decision."
White Crystal's appearance made Yu Xuan realize the true meaning of "bond with the deck".
There's always an element of mystique in playing Yu-Gi-Oh, including the Shadow Games.
Like how Ushijima Tetsu attacked him earlier, if White Crystal hadn't intervened, he would have been in danger.
From White Crystal's card description, he was a high-ranking warrior, quite humble, and valued unity with his comrades.
In short, having White Crystal as a companion was reassuring.
"I'll check if the system has any new tasks before bed."
Yu Xuan felt tired, both physically and mentally, after staying up late playing cards.
Before going to sleep, he opened the system to check for tasks.
【Task Two: Win the Duel City Tournament. Champion Reward: 3000 Crystals, Runner-up: 1000 Crystals, Third Place: 500 Crystals】
"You have to reach the semi-finals to get a reward, that task is too much of a scam!"
Seeing the task, Yu Xuan found it a bit unfair. It wasn't that he doubted his skills, or lacked confidence in his abilities.
It was that the Duel City Tournament had just begun, and the semi-finals were still some time away.
Wouldn't he have nothing to do during this time?
Just then, a dialog box popped up in the system, informing Yu Xuan: "This system, besides releasing fixed main tasks, can trigger side tasks based on the host's experiences."
Seeing the system's dialog box, Yu Xuan felt relieved. There were random events that triggered tasks, giving him more to do.
But before seeking out things to do, he planned to visit a card shop in the morning. He wanted to buy some powerful cards.
