Chapter 42
The Eight Strong Contenders

After Malik displayed six Duel Disk cards and registered as Ram.

A man wearing a purple-blue cloak, his head shaved in front and with a long braid in the back, walked into the arena. He had a tattoo on half of his face and held a Millennium Staff.

He looked like a vicious villain, fitting the identity of the leader of the Gurus Group.

“You’re Malik, the leader of the Gurus, right?”

Seto Kaiba snorted coldly. “Malik, you caused quite a bit of havoc in the Duelist Kingdom Tournament. I could have canceled your participation as the tournament organizer, but I chose not to do so. I want to beat you and take the God Cards from you!”

Lichid, disguised as the Gurus’ leader, didn't respond. He just glared at Kaiba and Yugi Muto.

Hearing this, Yugi knew that even if he revealed Malik’s identity to Kaiba, it would be useless.

As expected, the most important thing for Kaiba was to play cards.

He held the Duelist Kingdom Tournament with the sole purpose of collecting the God Cards. Now that they were in his hands, he wouldn’t refuse.

Yugi thought he would just give them a heads-up later when Joey Wheeler and the others arrived, warning them to be wary of Malik’s schemes.

He remembered that Malik used the Millennium Staff to mind control Anzu on the ship.

Tsk, tsk, this plot…

It was fortunate that Yu-Gi-Oh! had a family-friendly world view, or else things would have gotten out of hand.

“Isn’t this the final stage? It’s still under construction, right?”

About half an hour later, a boisterous voice came from the door.

Joey, Yugi, and a blonde beauty walked in one after another.

“Yo!”

Yugi waved to them. Joey and Yugi were familiar faces. He had never met the blonde beauty before, but she was not unfamiliar. She was Joey’s partner, Mai Valentine.

Yugi and the others responded. They already knew that Yugi was the first person to collect all six Duel Disk cards and would arrive at the final stage before them. It wasn’t a surprise.

“You’re late.”

Kaiba snorted, seeming displeased that they arrived so late.

“It’s not like I wanted to be late. We encountered a Hollywood movie star and had a duel with him.”

Joey hated Kaiba’s disdain for him and clenched his fist in anger. “Being delayed by some unknown person, you’re just a loser.”

Kaiba put his hands on his hips and snorted.

Hearing Joey’s words, Yugi remembered that this had happened in the anime.

A middle-aged Hollywood star fell for Mai Valentine, and he was obsessed with her, wanting her to develop her career with him.

He used a Ninja deck and was pretty strong.

But he was really gutless. He always relied on stunt doubles. Compared to Joey, he was not worthy of Mai.

In Yugi’s opinion, Joey and Mai were a perfect match. They were the most likely couple to change the trends in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!

Both of them had golden hair and their personalities complemented each other.

One was the gambling king of Domino City, and the other had been a sexy dealer.

They were a perfect match, made for each other.

It was a pity that their relationship never had a clear outcome. Yugi felt this was a regret.

He had to admit that Mai Valentine was very sexy and beautiful. Yugi looked at her with admiration. He had no inappropriate thoughts about a girl with a clear partner.

He was more interested in Joey’s sister, Shizuka.

“Joey, don’t you have a sister named Shizuka? She didn’t come to cheer for you, her brother, in this crucial match?” Yugi asked with a smile.

“Hah, it’s all because of Honda. He insisted on taking my sister to play. I thought that Shizuka had just recovered from surgery and needed to have some fun, so I allowed it. Anzu went with them too.”

Joey grumbled. He really didn’t want Shizuka to come. Knowing that the leader of the Gurus would also be on the ship, he didn’t want to bring his sister to such a dangerous place.

So he turned a blind eye to Honda’s actions.

(I consider you a brother, but you want to be my brother-in-law!)

Yugi nodded. It was a pity. He wanted to see if Joey’s sister, Shizuka, was as gentle and charming as people said.

But it was a good thing. It would be impossible for Malik to do anything shady now.

Those present were either people with special abilities or unwavering willpower.

It wouldn’t be easy for Malik to use the Millennium Staff to brainwash them.

It was quite strange that Kaiba didn’t bring his younger brother, Mokuba.

Seeing Yugi, Joey, and the others chatting and catching up, Kaiba frowned. He turned to the bodyguard guarding them and ordered, “Make the flying ship land!”

“Flying ship?”

To Joey’s amazement, a huge oval-shaped Dueling ship slowly descended from the sky, bearing Kaiba Corporation's “KC” logo, naturally.

When the ship landed, the strong air pressure made their clothes flutter.

Yugi gripped his red baseball cap tightly. Yugi and the others were calm. Their hairstyles, perfectly suited for card playing, were not even ruffled by the strong wind…

A staircase unfolded from the bottom of the ship, leading to the interior. Kaiba turned and walked up, demonstrating Kaiba Corporation’s financial strength. What was a luxury cruise ship? True power was using a flying ship as a competition venue.

“The Quarterfinal will be held on this? You really are something, Kaiba!”

Joey felt a surge of excitement. He was eager to duel.

Even though Kaiba could be a real jerk sometimes, his ideas were impressive.

“Sir, there are eight contestants for the Quarterfinals. We still don’t have everyone here.”

Ishizu, wearing sunglasses, stepped forward and asked his boss.

There were seven people eligible for the competition: Yugi, Kaiba, Malik, Lichid, Joey, Yugi Muto, and Mai Valentine. The last eighth competitor had not yet appeared.

“We don’t need to wait for the latecomers. Let’s begin the Quarterfinals.”

Kaiba waved his hand, too lazy to wait any longer.

According to the original schedule of the Duelist Kingdom Tournament, the Quarterfinals should have begun 48 hours after the tournament started.

It was not yet time.

But in Kaiba’s eyes, the opponents worth fighting were already here. Those who held the God Cards, like Yugi, Malik, and Yugi, were already gathered.

Waiting any longer would just be boring if the people who came were just losers.

Ishizu and the other staff members thought it was inappropriate, but since their boss had given the order, they couldn’t say anything. They just instructed Yugi and the others to board the flying ship.

“Wait, I’m here.”

At this time, another person walked out from the shadows.
