Chapter 16
Rias's Successive Defeats

“Oh, Rias, you seem very motivated.”

Jūnae Himejima glanced at Rias, noticing the unusual excitement in her smile, and couldn't help but chuckle, covering her mouth with her hand.

“President, there’s a strong killing intent.”

As a beast in her true form, Koneko Tōjō's five senses were sharper, allowing her to perceive the changes in Rias more clearly. Even the stoic Koneko couldn't resist making a sarcastic remark.

“Looks like this stray Devil’s going to have a bad night.”

Yūto Kiba said with a chuckle.

“Hmm.”

Rias smiled gracefully, saying, “I will make him understand that becoming a stray Devil, evading the pursuit of his original owner, and escaping to Kuoh Town is not a fortunate event.”

“On the contrary, he will regret making such a decision.”

Rias's elegant smile carried an absolute confidence.

She had no doubts about her ability to subjugate the stray Devil.

Similarly, Jūnae Himejima and the other three had no doubts either.

As the next head of the Gremory family, Rias's strength was exceptional among Devils of her age, making dealing with a stray Devil a simple matter.

Of course, the prerequisite was finding the Devil’s whereabouts.

“It’s about time. Let’s go, everyone.”

Rias checked the wall clock, set down the documents in her hand, rose from her seat, and walked to the center of the room.

“Rias, do you have a target?”

Jūnae Himejima asked.

The familiars she sent out hadn't found any traces of the stray Devil.

This meant that they might need to search a wide area tonight.

“My familiar has found a clue.”

Rias nodded.

She used special communication magic to contact her familiars and learned about several suspicious places, possibly hiding places for the stray Devil.

Hearing this, Jūnae Himejima slightly nodded.

Koneko Tōjō and Yūto Kiba also walked to the center of the room.

The next moment, a circular pattern about two meters in diameter appeared beneath their feet.

The center of the circular pattern was etched with intricate patterns.

This was a teleportation array exclusive to the Gremory family, only usable for teleporting Gremory family members and their familiars.

The teleportation array emitted a dazzling red light, enveloping the four.

The next moment, the red light that enveloped them flickered violently.

And then, the four disappeared, teleported away from the Occult Research Club.

....

“Nothing here?”

The four reappeared in an abandoned building.

The building's walls were peeling, the floor was littered with debris and dust, and everything was dilapidated and old.

This place was sparsely populated, with occasional rustling sounds.

It was a bit creepy at night.

Rias glanced at the first floor of the building, knowing that besides the four of them, only small animals were still alive here.

“But, there’s a faint scent of the stray Devil. He must have stayed here for a while.”

Koneko Tōjō twitched her nose, sniffing the air. She detected a different scent, a Devil's scent.

“Indeed, it's a good place to hide.”

//////

Jūnae Himejima said with a smile.

This kind of secluded place wouldn't normally have anyone come by.

It was naturally a good place for temporary hiding.

“Let’s go to the next place.”

Rias shook her head. The initial setback didn’t disappoint her, but made her even more eager to thoroughly punish the stray Devil who dared to enter Kuoh Town.

Jūnae Himejima even chuckled softly. As a childhood friend, it was safe to say she knew Rias best.

With just a glance, she understood Rias's current mood.

This was only natural.

Although they had all mentally prepared themselves for the fact that they wouldn’t be able to succeed in one go before coming here, everyone still had a glimmer of hope in their hearts, hoping to encounter the stray Devil and solve the matter in the first attempt.

The initial failure would inevitably cause some disappointment.

Rias activated the teleportation array again, taking them to the next suspicious location.

Unfortunately, they met with one failure after another.

This stray Devil was indeed very good at hiding. He had only been in Kuoh Town for two or three days, yet he had already changed hiding places five or six times.

Based on Rias and the others' speculation, the stray Devil would change location every few hours.

He was incredibly cautious.

Rias finally understood why the stray Devil's original owner had hit a wall during the pursuit.

A stray Devil this cautious, if they didn’t arrive in front of him at the moment they discovered his trace and subjugate him, he could easily slip away.

“How is it? Did you find any new suspicious locations?”

After failing to locate the stray Devil’s trace once again, Rias summoned her familiar and asked.

The familiar, a little Devil-like creature, chirped and chattered in mid-air for a long time, then landed listlessly on Rias's shoulder.

“Really? You don’t know either?”

Rias reached out and stroked the familiar’s head, comforting it as she said, “It’s okay. This stray Devil is just too cunning.”

“President, the scent here is stronger than the previous few places. He should have left here recently.”

Koneko Tōjō fully utilized her animal instincts to make a judgment.

Speaking, Koneko Tōjō used her sharp sense of smell to check her surroundings, then said to Rias, “President, he should be heading in this direction. There's still a little scent on the road, I can smell it.”

“Koneko, I need your help.”

Rias said.

“Mhm.”

Koneko Tōjō nodded and summoned her familiar, a tiny, adorable white short-haired cat only the size of a palm.

This familiar possessed an even more sensitive sense of smell than Koneko Tōjō, making it perfect for tracking.

“Shirayuki, it's up to you.”

Koneko Tōjō stroked the white cat's head, then placed it on the ground.

“Meow—!”

The white cat let out a soft cry, then quickly ran off, tracking the scent.

“Everyone, follow Shirayuki.”

Koneko Tōjō followed behind the white cat, running all the way.

Seeing this, Rias and the others also followed behind the white cat.
