Chapter 36
Nuzleaf Joins the Team

“I think it's okay,” Na Zi's mother interjected.

“Wife... you...!” Na Jun didn't understand why his wife agreed. After all, Na Zi had only recently recovered. How could he be at ease with her going on a trip? What if something happened to her along the way?

“Alright, we'll listen to Mom,” Na Jun wanted to retort, but seeing his wife winking at him, he shut up.

“Xiao Mao, what do you think?” Na Jun looked at Xiao Mao. After all, it was Na Zi who requested to follow Xiao Mao, so he had to get Xiao Mao's consent.

Xiao Mao was troubled.

He could get the Kadabra whether he agreed or not.

But if he didn't agree, he would offend Na Zi. What if she gave him a hard time when he claimed the Kadabra later?

But if he let Na Zi travel with him, it would be inconvenient. After all, Xiao Mao had his own secrets, especially since Na Zi had psychic abilities. She could communicate with Pokémon.

What if his Pokémon accidentally spilled the beans and Na Zi found out? But upon closer thought, even if his Pokémon did let something slip, as long as he didn't admit it, there was nothing Na Zi could do about it.

“I'll say this upfront, my journey is to collect eight badges and participate in the Indigo League. Don't interfere with my schedule,” Xiao Mao reminded.

“I won't, I just want to follow you,” Na Zi nodded.

“Can you take care of yourself? I'm not good at taking care of people,” Xiao Mao said.

“That's no problem, let it take care of you two,” Na Zi's mother interjected, holding an open Poké Ball.

“Bang!”

“Bari! Bari!”

A Mr. Mime appeared, mimicking Na Zi's mother's actions.

“This Mr. Mime usually takes care of the students' daily life and the Pokémon in the Breeding Center. It's very good at taking care of people and Pokémon. With it, you'll be well taken care of,” Na Zi's mother explained.

“Bari! Bari!” Mr. Mime nodded, signaling that it was all on it. It's an SSR-level nanny for sure.

Xiao Mao believed this.

After all, Ash's family has a Mr. Mime to handle housework. When it comes to domestic work, Mr. Mime is definitely maxed out.

“Miss Na Zi, you'll be roughing it on the road. Are you sure you can handle it?” Xiao Mao asked.

“Of course,” Na Zi said.

Xiao Mao couldn't tell if she was being genuine.

Despite being a psychic, she had lived in a big city all her life. She was probably pampered and wouldn't be able to handle a little hardship.

Although Xiao Mao came from a wealthy family, he had grown up in Pallet Town, living a life like the other village kids. He had been able to handle hardship since he was young, and roughing it out was no problem for him.

“Alright then, I look forward to working with you, Na Zi,” Xiao Mao extended his hand towards Na Zi.

Na Zi was taken aback, then she understood what Xiao Mao meant and extended her hand slowly. Seeing this, Xiao Mao grabbed her hand and shook it twice before letting go.

Na Zi still had a cold expression, but her heart wasn't calm. In these fifteen years, apart from her father, she hadn't had any contact with the opposite sex. This was the first time, causing a stir in her peaceful heart.

“Na Zi, can I take a look at that Kadabra?” Xiao Mao asked.

“Okay.”

Na Zi nodded, her palm opened, and a Poké Ball appeared in her palm out of thin air.

This was Telekinesis, a type of psychic power.

The Poké Ball opened, and a Kadabra appeared before everyone.

The Kadabra was closing its eyes, looking almost asleep.

【LV20 Kadabra ♂/Pre-Evolutionary】

Compared to Na Zi's Kadabra, its potential was one level lower, but Pre-Evolutionary potential was still high enough. This was the first time Xiao Mao had captured a Pokémon with such high potential, except for Squirtle.

“This Kadabra's psychic power is excellent. It's not much different from my previous Kadabra,” Na Zi said.

“Indeed, it's great, but is there a Transporter here?” Xiao Mao asked.

“What do you need a Transporter for?” Na Zi asked, confused.

“I already have six Pokémon, I need to transfer one back,” Xiao Mao said.

“Ah, I see. Then follow me,” Na Zi said.

Na Jun, unconcerned, led them to a room next to the Breeding Center inside the gym. There was a Transporter placed here, specifically for Pokémon transfer.

Xiao Mao directly dialed Professor Oak's number, and it connected in no time. Professor Oak appeared on the Transporter's screen.

“What! Professor Oak!”

“It's really Professor Oak.”

“The one on TV who said something about a haiku.”

The Na Zi family recognized Professor Oak's identity, wondering why Xiao Mao had a connection with the famous Professor Oak.

“Oh, hello. It's nice to see you all,” Professor Oak saw Na Zi's family behind Xiao Mao and waved to them.

“Hello, Professor Oak. I'm Na Jun, the Gym Leader of the Goldenrod Gym. I've met you before, do you remember?” Na Jun stepped forward and asked.

“Oh, it's Mr. Na Jun, the Psychic. Long time no see,” Professor Oak knew about psychics. He had contact with them when he was younger.

“Yeah, Professor Oak, what's your relationship with Xiao Mao?” Na Jun asked curiously.

“Xiao Mao, well, he's my grandson,” Professor Oak said.

Na Jun was stunned. He couldn't believe that Xiao Mao was Professor Oak's grandson. He couldn't see it at all. Xiao Mao was too low-key.

As Professor Oak's grandson, what kind of Pokémon wouldn't he be able to capture? Yet, he insisted on catching them himself. It was clear that Professor Oak had taught his grandson well. He didn't let his grandson become a spoiled brat.

“Xiao Mao, are you in Goldenrod City now?” Professor Oak asked.

“Yes,” Xiao Mao replied.

“So how's your journey going lately?”

“It's going okay. I've got three badges so far,” Xiao Mao said.

“Oh, that's not bad. Have you filled your team yet? You know, both Orange and Yellow have sent Pokémon over. Only you and Ash haven't sent any over,” Professor Oak complained.

Professor Oak really looked forward to his grandson sending Pokémon over. He would definitely arrange training for them.

“Coincidentally, I was just about to transfer a Pokémon back,” Xiao Mao said.

“Oh! What Pokémon is it?”

“Butterfree.”

“Oh, that shiny Butterfree. Send it over quickly so I can take a look,” Professor Oak urged.

Although Butterfree is a very common Pokémon, shiny Pokémon are still worth studying.

“Alright, I'll tell Butterfree first,” Xiao Mao said.

Xiao Mao brought Butterfree out.

After all, this was the first time it was being left behind, and Butterfree had never been away from Xiao Mao before. So he had to do some mental preparation for it.
