Chapter 2
Recruiting Dependents, Deceiving the Four Corners to See the Child

“Good morning, Kato.”

“Good morning, Lu Li.”

The morning air was fresh, and the sun shone brightly.

Lu Li settled into his seat, taking in the legendary “ordinary” female lead.

The girl with the bob cut before him had delicate features and a curvaceous figure, as if she had stepped out of a painting.

Due to her “ordinary” nature, he had never noticed her before. Only yesterday, after his rank had been upgraded, could he clearly call out her name.

Seeing Kato Megumi’s ears turn slightly red, Lu Li knew she had noticed his gaze. He quickly averted his eyes, looking elsewhere.

It was rude to keep staring at her when their relationship wasn’t close enough.

Morning was the time when students had the most energy and were best at memorizing.

However, most students didn’t spend this time studying. Instead, they gathered in groups of three or five, discussing TV shows, makeup, and other topics.

There was Kidokawa Kaori, dressed like a hot girl; Yamada Ryo, a grass-eating enthusiast; Aoyama Nana, a working warrior; and Yurikawa Hana, munching on snacks.

He knew quite a few people, and they were all quite beautiful.

The two-dimensional world was truly wonderful!

“Who should I choose as my Kenzo?”

After all, this world wasn’t the Danmachi world. The concept of Kenzo was still quite new here.

If he went out and declared himself a god, people would just think he was crazy.

“Sigh.”

“Lu Li, is something bothering you?”

Kato Megumi looked up, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.

Lu Li asked, “Kato, what would you do if a god said they wanted to make you their Kenzo?”

Kato Megumi’s gaze flickered slightly. “I’d call the police, Lu Li! Have you encountered a cult trying to recruit you? Just stay away from those things.”

As a citizen of Japan, Kato Megumi was well aware of the situation in her country.

After the war, the US became Japan’s Big Daddy and heavily remodeled Japan.

One of the US’s remodels was the religious laws.

Due to freedom of religion, there were more than 200,000 large and small religious groups in Japan, creating utter chaos.

In the minds of ordinary citizens, religious people were almost synonymous with criminals.

In this situation, it was easy to establish a religious group, but difficult to recruit followers.

Because the easily-deceived people had already been taken, the ones left were intelligent and had their own opinions.

“Thank you for the reminder, Kato,” Lu Li nodded lightly, pondering in his heart.

Why don’t I have something like Divine Power? In Danmachi, ordinary people know immediately when they see a god. With Divine Power, I wouldn’t have to worry about people not believing me.

Half a day passed in the blink of an eye.

Since becoming a god, Lu Li discovered that his learning ability had greatly increased. Studying was effortless.

During lunch break, a figure appeared outside the classroom. It was a girl with long black hair, golden eyes, a beautiful appearance, and a slender figure. Her only flaw was her slightly lifeless gaze, which couldn’t hide her fatigue.

“Mito!” Yurikawa Hana exclaimed, grabbing her lunchbox and running outside. “Everyone, I’m leaving!”

Lu Li saw this and his heart stirred. “People like Kato Megumi haven’t seen the true nature of the world. They wouldn’t naturally believe in gods, but Yotsuya Mito is different. Looking at her expression, her Yin-Yang Eyes are probably already open. If I can convince her, I’ll probably have my first Kenzo.”

With that thought, Lu Li stood up and walked towards the cafeteria.

He had a choice now, so recruiting a Kenzo wasn’t urgent.

Having made a decision, Lu Li felt relaxed.

【Sakurajima Mai’s smile is so healing!】

【SAO, the groundbreaking virtual reality game, is about to start its internal beta. Hurry and grab your internal beta access to experience the exciting game world ahead of everyone else.】

While eating, Lu Li scrolled through Twitter. Suddenly, his eyes narrowed. He thought to himself, “With Sakurajima Mai, maybe this world has Puberty Syndrome too.”

Puberty Syndrome, it was a disease that only appeared in adolescents.

No!

It was more like a superpower than a disease.

Disappearing presence, time loops, splitting into multiple selves, time travel…

Some of the gods in mythology didn’t even possess these powers.

“Maybe my Divine Panel and Divine Grace System aren’t systems at all, but Puberty Syndrome!” The urgency in Lu Li’s heart grew. “If that’s the case, then I need to act quickly. Puberty Syndrome disappears after puberty. But if I can forge Divine Authority during puberty, I can naturally acquire true Divine Authority.”

In the blink of an eye, it was time for school to end.

“Kato, see you later!” Lu Li stood up and headed for the exit.

During lunch break, he had already found out Yotsuya Mito’s class. It was the class next door.

Now was the time to go intercept her.

“See you later, Lu Li!” Kato Megumi’s heart fluttered, her eyes flickering slightly.

Lu Li didn’t forget about me?

Since yesterday, Lu Li has been able to remember me. It definitely wasn’t a coincidence!

Even her own parents sometimes forgot about their daughter.

Kato Megumi paused her actions, a strange feeling rising in her heart.

“This is so draining!”

Yotsuya Mito looked utterly exhausted. Even when the school bell rang, she didn’t get up.

Ever since she started seeing those strange and inexplicable evil spirits, her peaceful daily life had vanished.

No matter where or when, she would be harassed by evil spirits. She was always on edge, causing her, a beautiful girl, to constantly radiate a lethargic aura, making people want to stay away from her.

“Yotsuya, there’s a boy looking for you!”

Yotsuya Mito looked up and saw a classmate with a curious expression, full of gossip, beckoning her.

Next to her, a stranger stood there.

In the eyes of ordinary people, this boy was at most handsome and elegant.

But in Yotsuya Mito’s eyes, this classmate was radiating a faint golden light, as if he had special effects applied, like the gods on TV.

Yotsuya Mito was shocked.

This was a sight she had never encountered before.

“Who are you?” Yotsuya Mito couldn’t help but stand up.

“Yotsuya, can we talk somewhere else?” Lu Li asked.

Yotsuya Mito nodded. “The coffee shop outside the school gate, how about that?”

“Okay,” Lu Li nodded lightly. “Yotsuya, just tidy up. I’ll be waiting there for you.”

Her classmate exclaimed, “A coffee shop, a date?!”

Yotsuya Mito was speechless. She hadn’t realized her classmate had such a gossipy side.

“Fujino, we’re just talking about something!”

They arrived at the coffee shop and ordered a cup of coffee. After waiting for a while, Yotsuya Mito hurried over.

“Who are you?” Yotsuya Mito sat down and asked urgently.

Lu Li didn’t answer. Instead, he asked a question. “Yotsuya, can you see them?”

Yotsuya Mito was already on edge. Her pupils constricted at his words. She steadied herself and complained, “You’re really mean! You scared me. Wait—could you see them too?”

“That’s right,” Lu Li nodded, stretching out his hand and grabbing at the empty space beside him. He squeezed gently.

In Yotsuya Mito’s eyes, Lu Li directly crushed an evil spirit into fragments with his hand, turning it into dust.

“As you can see, I am a god. Yotsuya, would you like to be my Kenzo?”

“Kenzo?” Yotsuya Mito was puzzled.

Lu Li explained, “You can think of it as a shrine maiden who serves a god. But unlike traditional shrine maidens, I can grant you divine grace. You can also have supernatural powers, and even eternal youth.”

Yotsuya Mito was stunned. A blush crept onto her pale cheeks.

Shrine maiden!

That was someone who served a god.

After opening her Yin-Yang Eyes, Yotsuya Mito had also looked into a lot of information about religious personnel. She knew very well what shrine maidens did.

If it weren’t for the golden light emanating from the boy in front of her, adding some credibility, she would have thought he was a scammer.

“Can supernatural powers defeat evil spirits?”

“Probably,” Lu Li pondered, uttering an uncertain answer. “After all, you’re my first Kenzo. Without a reference point, it’s hard to say how much Divine Grace can accomplish.”
