Chapter 3
The Current State of Low-Level Thugs

Nine Dragons!

Inside a billiard hall.

Ye Yao Zu lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and looked at the large, wet scar on his pants. Scar, covered in blood, knelt before him. A Ji, accompanied by his elite enforcers, also appeared there.

“Scar, tell me, how are you going to compensate for my losses?” Ye Yao Zu slowly spoke to Scar.

Scar’s body trembled, his subordinates lay sprawled around him.

“I’ll compensate, I’ll compensate, Zu Ge, just tell me how much.” Scar gritted his teeth as he spoke to Ye Yao Zu.

Ye Yao Zu looked at his three dead subordinates and the traitor, Mao Zi.

“Funeral expenses, 100,000 each. Plus, a million for emotional distress. What do you think?” Ye Yao Zu said with a smile.

Scar’s eyes widened as he looked at Ye Yao Zu. Where would he find that much money? If he had that much, he wouldn't need to set his sights on Ye Yao Zu's billiard hall. He came here to expand his connections and develop new allies.

“Zu Ge, I don’t have that much.” Scar said with a hint of pleading to Ye Yao Zu.

“No?” Ye Yao Zu looked at Scar, then gave A Ji a glance.

Scar looked at A Ji, fear in his eyes. This was the blonde kid who came in and finished off everyone with a short blade. It was as if killing to him was no different than killing a chicken.

“Wait, wait, Zu Ge, I do, I do.” Scar gritted his teeth as he spoke to Ye Yao Zu.

“Oh?” Ye Yao Zu looked at Scar. He hadn't expected Scar to actually be able to come up with that much money. Maybe it was Dong Xing's money, that was possible.

This money belonged to Dong Xing, likely temporarily kept by Scar.

A plan formed in Ye Yao Zu's mind.

“In that case, go get the money. I'll wait for you here. You have one hour. If you don't come back with the money, then don't blame me for being ruthless.” Ye Yao Zu said slowly.

Hearing Ye Yao Zu's words, Scar was stunned. He looked at Ye Yao Zu, not sure if he was genuinely stupid or just pretending. Letting him go back like this, wasn't he afraid he'd just run away?

But Scar didn't care at this moment. If his head was smart, he wouldn't have been a small-time gangster for over ten years.

“Thank you, Zu Ge, I'll go now.” Scar didn't think twice. He wiped the blood from his face and ran out.

Ye Yao Zu looked at A Ji.

“Follow him. Ten of our brothers died, this guy won't be able to explain himself to Dong Xing. He might run off with the money. Do it clean.” Ye Yao Zu whispered.

A Ji nodded, took two enforcers, and followed Scar out of the billiard hall.

Ye Yao Zu looked at Mao Zi, who was curled up on the floor, pretending to be dead.

Mao Zi looked at Ye Yao Zu: “Zu Ge, I'm not a human being, please forgive me. I'm not a human, please.”

Mao Zi pleaded, tears in his eyes.

“Forgive you? What about the families of the skinny guys?” Ye Yao Zu said slowly. Hearing Ye Yao Zu's words, fear filled Mao Zi's eyes.

“One of you come with me, bring him. Go to the Hung Hing Nine Dragons headquarters. The rest of you clean up here. Do it clean.” Ye Yao Zu instructed the remaining enforcers.

Then he opened the door, an enforcer grabbed Mao Zi, and followed Ye Yao Zu. They got into a Toyota Hiace, also known as the “Chen Hai Nan mobile office.”

The enforcer drove according to Ye Yao Zu's directions, quickly arriving at Hung Hing's Nine Dragons headquarters.

Three of Ye Yao Zu's subordinates had died, and one had betrayed him. They were all part of Hung Hing's Four Nines and were on the official roster. This needed to be reported, and Hung Hing would still have to provide funeral expenses and so on.

Hung Hing's Nine Dragons headquarters was a small office building, six stories tall. It was also a loan shark operation run by the “Narrow Eyes.”

Ye Yao Zu got out of the car and walked straight in, taking Mao Zi with him towards the sixth floor, where Narrow Eyes' office was.

“Boss.” Ye Yao Zu walked into Narrow Eyes' office. Narrow Eyes sat in the boss's chair.

“Ah Zu, what brings you here today?” Narrow Eyes smiled at Ye Yao Zu. As the only one among his subordinates who was handsome, Narrow Eyes certainly remembered him.

Ye Yao Zu gave the enforcer behind him a look. The enforcer tossed Mao Zi, covered in blood, onto the floor.

“Boss, this guy was one of my subordinates, but he betrayed me and colluded with Dong Xing to take my billiard hall. He killed three of our brothers. I came here to ask the Boss how to deal with him.” Ye Yao Zu simply told Narrow Eyes.

Hearing Ye Yao Zu's words, Narrow Eyes looked at Mao Zi on the floor, anger filling his eyes. He stood up from the boss's chair.

“Damn traitor, eating from both sides, even colluding with Dong Xing.” Narrow Eyes muttered, kicking Mao Zi several times.

Mao Zi coughed up blood and passed out.

Narrow Eyes beckoned, and two subordinates walked over. “Take him away and dispose of him. Damn traitor.”

“Ah Zu, you did well in this matter. What about the people from Dong Xing?” Narrow Eyes asked Ye Yao Zu.

“Over ten people from Dong Xing died. I've taken care of it. But Scar, the leader, escaped.” Ye Yao Zu said slowly, but he didn't tell the truth.

“Escaped? Hmph, just like that he wants to run away? This matter is now mine. I'll have people take care of it.” Narrow Eyes said to Ye Yao Zu.

“Yes, Boss.” Ye Yao Zu nodded.

“Also, I'll speak to the higher-ups about the funeral expenses for the three dead brothers. Once it's settled, I'll give it to you.” Narrow Eyes said with a smile.

“Mm-hmm.” Ye Yao Zu nodded.

“If there's nothing else, you can go back.” Narrow Eyes waved his hand to Ye Yao Zu.

“Okay, then I'll go back, Boss.” Ye Yao Zu said, then left Narrow Eyes' office.

He got into the car and told the enforcer to drive back. Ye Yao Zu didn't believe a word of what Narrow Eyes said.

The so-called “taking care of it” with Dong Xing just meant this matter was closed. Narrow Eyes was old and didn't care about anything else anymore. He just wanted to make a big fortune before retirement. Everything else was none of his concern.

And the supposed funeral expenses? It was just an application, and Narrow Eyes would pocket it all. If he had a sliver of conscience, he might give a little, but otherwise, he wouldn't give a dime. They died, so they died. This was the current state of low-level gangsters.
