Chapter 23
They Say You're Breaking the Law, So You Break the Law!

Hong Xing's accountants were a special breed. They weren't part of the gang, but they managed the gang's finances, or rather, they helped Jiang Tian Sheng keep track of how much each of the Big Bosses made each month.

Half of that money was supposed to be turned over, and Jiang Tian Sheng naturally arranged for his own people to handle this.

Although the Big Bosses weren't happy about the accountants, they understood that they were Jiang Tian Sheng's men, so they would at least show some respect. The accountants only dealt with financial matters, and none of the Big Bosses would agree if they tried to interfere with their territories.

Even if they were Jiang Tian Sheng's men.

Ye Yao Zu sat in his boss's chair. For now, he had enough money to last a while, but he needed to find a way to get ahead.

Ye Yao Zu didn't plan on running too many shady businesses in Hong Kong. He knew how things would develop in the future, and he understood that grey areas were problematic.

There would inevitably be a crackdown. This was one of those situations where they could say you were breaking the law, and you were breaking the law. It was better not to get involved in the first place, rather than be unable to let go of the enormous profits later on.

"Let's start by taking over the territory in Kowloon," Ye Yao Zu said, outlining his initial plan. Kowloon was his base, and he had to take it all.

If it weren't for the special significance of Kowloon Walled City, Ye Yao Zu would have already sent Tian Yang Sheng and the others to barge in.

Kowloon Walled City was the reason for the current situation in Kowloon. Until he could handle the other forces, Ye Yao Zu wouldn't try to completely get rid of it.

Even if he did take it, he wouldn't be sure if he could stomach such a fat piece of meat. It would be miserable if someone else took it from him.

Because of Kowloon Walled City, the other forces weren't interested in spending too much effort in this area. Once it was gone, Kowloon would become a prime target.

After all, Tsim Sha Tsui was right next to Kowloon, and this piece of meat was dripping with fat.

"South Korea, Japan?" Ye Yao Zu took a deep breath. These two places were developing rapidly, and they were the best opportunities to get involved.

Ye Yao Zu wouldn't miss this chance.

However, he currently had the will but lacked the strength.

"You have to take things one step at a time. You can't rush," Ye Yao Zu muttered.

"Take it slow."

For the next week, Ye Yao Zu focused on consolidating the five streets that Luo Tian Hong and A Ji had won.

The rules of the gangs in Hong Kong were that just because you had taken over a territory didn't mean it was yours. You had to set up shop and hold it for a week. If you held it, it was yours. If you didn't, then you were out of luck.

Fortunately, this was Kowloon. The people in charge from the big gangs in Hong Kong were mainly involved in smuggling or trafficking, and they didn't have much territory.

There was only one reason for this - chaos.

"Brother Zu, everything's settled now. Should we start moving on other places?" Luo Tian Hong said, a hint of impatience in his voice.

Ye Yao Zu didn't answer Luo Tian Hong. Instead, he looked at Gang Sheng.

"Gang Sheng, how many valuable commercial streets are left in Kowloon?" Ye Yao Zu said slowly, his fingers tapping lightly on the table.

"Excluding the six streets we control, there are eleven commercial streets left. The rest are just residential streets or slums," Gang Sheng said slowly.

"Eleven streets?" Ye Yao Zu narrowed his eyes. He currently had 1,000 official members, but if he took over all eleven streets, he would not have enough manpower.

"Gang Sheng, estimate the monthly revenue from these eleven streets combined with our current six streets," Ye Yao Zu said slowly.

After quickly calculating, Gang Sheng said, "Property fees should be around HK$15 million to HK$20 million. Maybe a bit more or a bit less. I haven't walked through it all, so I'm not sure, but it shouldn't fluctuate too much."

"That means we'll have HK$7 million to HK$10 million left after we give half to Hong Xing," Ye Yao Zu said slowly.

If he wanted to support 2,000 members, their monthly salaries would be at least HK$4 million, leaving Ye Yao Zu with only about HK$3 million.

Don't think seventeen streets is that much money. In reality, a typical town has only two or three streets. Seventeen streets would be equivalent to five or six towns.

Did that sound like a lot?

And Ye Yao Zu could only keep five or six million at most. This was still considered a low amount.

Of course, it was also because Ye Yao Zu didn't have other ways to make money.

"Tian Hong, go recruit new members. Same rules as before - no gamblers or drug addicts. Recruit up to 2,000 people," Ye Yao Zu said in a deep voice.

"Brother Zu, we won't have much money left if we do that," Gang Sheng said slowly.

"I know, but the only thing we can do in Kowloon right now is collect property fees," Ye Yao Zu said in a deep voice.

Ye Yao Zu wanted to get into fake goods, but he didn't have any connections or suitable people in mainland China. If he had, fake goods would have been a good option.

Ye Yao Zu also wanted to smuggle, but he didn't have any connections or sources. How could he do it?

No matter what, he had to expand his influence first. He had to take those seventeen commercial streets. He would figure out the rest later.

Money and people - that's how Ye Yao Zu would gain standing in Hong Kong. That's how he would earn respect in the underworld. If he didn't have anything, he wouldn't be able to do any other business. He wouldn't be able to do anything.

Ye Yao Zu wouldn't touch gambling or drugs, at least not in Hong Kong. Gambling was legal in Macau, but only in Macau.

"A Ji, go investigate and find out which forces are controlling the remaining eleven streets. Once Tian Hong has recruited enough people, we'll strike. Don't give them a chance," Ye Yao Zu said in a deep voice.

"Yes, Brother Zu," A Ji nodded.

Luo Tian Hong went to recruit new members with excitement.
