The operation was a success.
A few days later.
“Hou Liang Ping’s cousin, Hou Chun Lai, has been released,” the subordinate’s voice broke the silence. Qi Tong Wei tilted his head slightly, revealing a complex expression.
“Oh? So quickly released?” Qi Tong Wei’s tone carried a hint of subtle sarcasm.
He knew that Hou Chun Lai’s release wasn’t due to lack of evidence, but because of the powerful political force backing him.
But all of this, in Qi Tong Wei’s eyes, was just fleeting.
Hou Liang Ping’s cousin, Hou Chun Lai, walked out of the door, his face pale and filled with anger.
He looked up at the brightly lit office building, his eyes full of resentment and unwillingness.
It was all Qi Tong Wei’s doing behind the scenes.
“Qi Tong Wei! You ungrateful bastard!” Hou Liang Ping roared loudly, his voice echoing in the empty night.
“Monkey, do you think you understand me?” Qi Tong Wei muttered to himself, a sneer curling his lips.
He had never forgotten his original intention, but in this world filled with power struggles, he had to make some compromises and choices.
And these choices, in Hou Liang Ping’s eyes, became evidence of his ingratitude.
Hou Liang Ping stood outside, reminiscing about the past with Qi Tong Wei.
They had once fought side-by-side, combating crime together. They had once raised their glasses to each other, sharing their dreams for the future.
But now, all of that had vanished into thin air, leaving only endless resentment and disappointment.
“Qi Tong Wei, our friendship is over!” Hou Liang Ping took a deep breath and announced loudly.
He knew that once these words were uttered, their friendship would be irrevocably broken, but he still spoke them without hesitation.
Because he couldn’t tolerate a friend who betrayed his beliefs and principles.
Qi Tong Wei stood by the window for a long time, until Hou Liang Ping’s roar gradually faded away.
He turned around and looked resolutely ahead.
Just then, his phone suddenly rang, interrupting Qi Tong Wei’s thoughts.
He picked up the phone and saw that it was a call from Liang Lu.
“Hello? Tong Wei, how are things on your end? Hou Liang Ping’s cousin was released, right?” Liang Lu’s voice carried a touch of concern and tension.
She knew Qi Tong Wei was under a lot of pressure lately and was worried something might happen to him.
“Yes, he’s been released.” Qi Tong Wei replied indifferently. “You don’t have to worry about me.”
“That’s good.” Liang Lu breathed a sigh of relief. “You have to take care of yourself. Don’t overwork yourself.”
“I know.” Qi Tong Wei hung up the phone.
He knew Liang Lu was concerned about him, but this concern made him feel a strange sense of oppression and confinement.
His marriage with Liang Lu wasn’t based on love but on the need for a political alliance.
This kind of relationship made him feel suffocated and helpless.
Qi Tong Wei walked to his desk, sat down, and opened a file to review.
There were still many things to be done, waiting for him to handle.
In this world full of power and struggle, he must always stay alert and vigilant, not allowing himself to be swayed by any emotion.
However, just then, a sharp knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.
He looked up and saw a subordinate rushing in.
“It’s not good! Hou Liang Ping has gathered a group of reporters outside and wants to see you!” The subordinate’s voice carried a touch of panic and unease.
Qi Tong Wei furrowed his brow and stood up, asking, “What does he want?”
“He… he says he wants to expose your crimes!” The subordinate’s voice grew quieter, as if he were revealing a terrible truth.
Qi Tong Wei sneered and said, “Oh? What crimes does he want to expose?”
“He… he said you’re taking bribes, abusing your power…” The subordinate’s words were cut off by Qi Tong Wei.
“Enough!” Qi Tong Wei roared angrily. “Let him in!”
Before long, Hou Liang Ping arrived at Qi Tong Wei’s office with a group of reporters.
He looked at Qi Tong Wei with anger and said, “Qi Tong Wei! What else do you have to say?”
Qi Tong Wei glanced at him indifferently and said, “Monkey, monkey, you’re still too young.”
He pointed at the reporters and said, “Do you think these reporters will believe your side of the story? They only seek the truth and facts.”
Hou Liang Ping’s expression changed and he said, “Do you think I don’t have evidence?”
He pulled a stack of documents out of his pocket, threw them on the desk, and said, “These are your evidence of taking bribes!”
Qi Tong Wei sneered, picked up the documents, flipped through them, and said, “These documents are all fake.”
He pointed to the seal on the documents and said, “Look at this seal, it’s obviously forged.”
“That’s impossible! I found these documents at your house!”
“Oh, really? Then why didn’t you go directly to the police? Why are you making a scene with a group of reporters here?”
He waved his hand, instructing his subordinate to take the reporters out.
“Qi Tong Wei! Don’t think you can escape the law!”
He was about to step forward and grab Qi Tong Wei’s collar, but two subordinates stopped him.
“Monkey, monkey, you’re still too impulsive.” Qi Tong Wei said indifferently. “Do you think you can change anything? The world is not as simple as you imagine.”
He turned and left the office, leaving Hou Liang Ping to roar in place.
This night was destined to be turbulent.
The rift between Qi Tong Wei and Hou Liang Ping was irreparable.
Their friendship and trust had been shattered completely.
