Jiang Heng, fresh from his recent transmigration, felt a surge of panic. Night City was a place fraught with danger, a haven for various gangs, ruthless intermediaries, and powerful figures who held ordinary people in contempt.
Here, one could stumble upon terror attacks, gang shootouts at any moment. Even buying a pack of toilet paper could turn into a shop robbery.
Being robbed by a gang of speeders on the street was commonplace, even getting shot in the head by a stray bullet was not unheard of.
Night City, a paradise for the rich, a hell for the poor.
Jiang Heng, a transmigrator, was penniless and powerless, without any cybernetic enhancements installed, and even a blacklisted individual. Surving here seemed an impossible dream.
Fortunately, his system was powerful. When it transported him to Night City, it had completed his identity registration and provided him with a property.
The property was located on Clarendon Street in Watson's Little China, southwest of the coast. This area was the most bustling in Watson, thanks to its proximity to the city center across the river and its coastal location.
The system was generous in its gift. The property was a rooftop penthouse, covering a floor area of over 500 square meters, with an additional 700 square meters of outdoor space.
The outdoor space included a lawn, an aerial garden, a sky pool, even a hovercar landing platform, making it truly luxurious.
This was a haven for the wealthy, out of reach for ordinary people. This gifted property alone was something an average Night City citizen couldn't afford even after working for ten lifetimes.
So, what exactly were the functions of Jiang Heng's system?
Two main functions, essentially.
Firstly, it allowed him to transmigrate into various game worlds. The current world, for example, was the world of the game "Cyberpunk 2077."
Secondly, it had the ability to adapt.
Adaptive ability meant that the system's functions would adjust based on the world he was transmigrated into.
In the current world, its ability was "Transfer."
What was transfer? It meant transferring the abilities and items of V, the game character controlled by Jiang Heng, to himself.
This transfer included all the skills in the game, a series of cybernetic enhancements, and equipment abilities.
By transferring the Sandevistan cybernetic enhancement, Jiang Heng could gain the skill "Bullet Time."
By transferring legendary subdermal armor, his skin would become incredibly tough, impenetrable by bullets.
By transferring optical camouflage, Jiang Heng would gain the "invisibility" skill.
By transferring the double jump, Jiang Heng would gain incredible jumping ability, able to leap over a ten-meter tall obstacle.
By transferring the Gorilla Arms, Jiang Heng's arm strength would increase dramatically, truly becoming a "Kirin Arm."
...
By transferring the abilities of these cybernetic enhancements, Jiang Heng could transform into a humanoid Gundam without needing to install them himself.
Additionally, attribute points from the game could also be transferred.
In "Cyberpunk 2077," character attributes were divided into five categories: Body, Tech, Reflex, Cool, and Intelligence.
Jiang Heng's game character had all five attributes maxed out. Not only that, he could even install double the amount of cybernetic enhancements. How was that possible?
Don't ask, just know that he was a WindSpiritMoonShadow + Modded God.
WindSpiritMoonShadow, forever a legend!
Transferring Body attributes would turn Jiang Heng into a miniature Superman. Transferring Reflex attributes would make his reactions quicker than a cat.
Transferring Tech would grant him the ability to dismantle and assemble weapons and equipment. Cool would make him more difficult to detect during stealth.
Intelligence, while initially tied to hacking in the game, would make Jiang Heng's not-so-developed brain much smarter when transferred to him, enhancing his learning ability.
In short, each attribute had a different function. Some of the smaller skills within the five attribute categories could also be transferred.
However, it's important to note that the transfer didn't transfer all the game character's abilities, items, and so on to Jiang Heng at once. He needed to complete tasks to earn transfer opportunities.
Fortunately, the system had performed three automatic transfers when he first transmigrated.
The first was the maxed-out Body attribute, greatly enhancing his physical fitness. Otherwise, this typical NEET would likely just get beaten up in a fight.
The second was the Sandevistan cybernetic enhancement, granting him the skill "Bullet Time." This skill gave him a real chance of surviving in this world.
The third was the swordsmanship skill, enabling Jiang Heng to use swords expertly against enemies.
These three transfer opportunities had allowed him to overcome the awkward period of his initial transmigration. He had been frantically completing missions for the past month to acquire new transfer opportunities.
...
In "Cyberpunk 2077," the game character V was incredibly powerful. Taking the swordsmanship build as an example, a fully developed swordsmanship build could deal tens of thousands of damage with a single strike. Anyone, even Adam Smasher, could be cut to pieces.
More importantly, when game character abilities were transferred to the real world, they often became even stronger.
No matter how realistic the game, there were still major limitations. For example, some fixed scenes in the game were indestructible. No matter how powerful the weapon, even a nuclear bomb wouldn't affect them.
However, there were no such limitations in reality. When someone acquired the abilities of a game character, they could become like a humanoid Gundam, truly capable of fighting a whole army alone.
And to think, Jiang Heng's game character was already enhanced with WindSpiritMoonShadow and mods!
