Chapter 23
Gangsters Are All Good People!

As Jiang Heng had anticipated, no one from the company had come looking for them. Jiang Heng and Lucy's lives remained peaceful.

Time passed, and before they knew it, two months had gone by since Jiang Heng and Lucy started working together.

During this time, Jiang Heng no longer took on missions as frantically as he did during his first month in this world. He only took one mission per week. This wasn't because he was slacking off, but because the missions he was accepting became increasingly difficult, requiring more time to complete.

Generally, Jiang Heng and Lucy would spend a day researching information about their targets after accepting a mission, striving to gather as much intel as possible. They had many ways to collect information, but most of the time it relied on Lucy's hacking skills.

They would spend a day gathering intelligence, then compile the information, and finally create a detailed plan of action based on the findings.

Although this might sound troublesome, it undoubtedly maximized their safety.

After all, this was Night City, where safety was paramount.

With a plan in place, the two would work together. Completing a mission typically took two days.

All in all, a mission took 3 to 4 days. Therefore, one mission per week was sufficient.

Although their efficiency had decreased, Jiang Heng and Lucy's income had increased considerably.

Simultaneously, Jiang Heng and Lucy finally acquired vehicles.

When going out for fun, they would drive a Guadra 66 Avenger, a very stylish supercar.

Besides this, Jiang Heng's garage was filled with other cars, such as the Guadra 66 Alconost, the Guadra 66 Cthulhu, and others. He had practically collected every luxurious sports car from Guadra.

However, Lucy's favorite was a motorcycle – the Kusanagi Blade CT-3X.

This motorcycle was touted as the fastest motorcycle, its engine so powerful that people needed to install cybernetic enhancements to fully unleash its speed on the road. Otherwise, it was difficult for humans to handle the Kusanagi Blade at its full speed.

Jiang Heng was surprised to learn that Lucy was a motorcycle girl.

It's worth mentioning that in the game, the top speed of these vehicles was typically limited to around 200 km/h. This was due to the limitations of the game. In reality, these sports cars and motorcycles could easily reach speeds over 400 km/h. Most racing enthusiasts would install cybernetic enhancements to better control their vehicles, as it could be dangerous to drive at such high speeds without them.

When they were on missions, they usually drove a Militech Makinono Warhorse, a Militech MTL1, and other large off-road pickup trucks.

Militech was a company that specialized in manufacturing "big" vehicles like off-roaders. The most prominent feature of their vehicles was their safety and powerful engines.

It's worth mentioning that many vehicles in this era used Crystal Ball holographic projection technology. What is Crystal Ball technology, you ask? It's essentially replacing the car's windshield with a holographic projection screen that is even harder than tempered glass. When the vehicle is started, the external scene is projected onto the screen, making it appear as if you are looking through a glass window at the same scene.

Crystal Ball projection technology not only significantly enhanced the aesthetics of the vehicles but, more importantly, increased their safety and privacy. Regardless of what people were doing inside the car, it wouldn't be visible to those outside.

This was definitely a favorite feature of some thrill-seeking drivers!

It has to be said, this technology was incredibly cool.

All these vehicles were not purchased but were gifted by someone. As for who was so generous to give them all these cars? Well, it was the Vortex Gang, the Tiger Claw Gang, and other kind-hearted gang members, of course!

In the game, stolen vehicles – or rather, vehicles gifted by others – couldn't be permanently owned, but that wasn't the case in reality.

You came to Night City and still had to pay to buy a car? That was just pure extravagance, wasn't it?

Night City was a good place. The people here were kind and generous, especially the gang members. They were truly loyal and sincere friends. If you needed anything, they would be there for you. They would never be stingy. Whether it was a car, weapons, or pills, they would readily give them to you.

That evening, Jiang Heng and Lucy finished another mission and, as usual, went to Afterlife to turn it in.

Over the past two months, Jiang Heng and Lucy had made a name for themselves in the mercenary circle. They were highly efficient, and to this day, they had never failed a mission.

Although they only took one mission per week, their efficiency was already high in the mercenary world. Many mercenaries spent what they earned on each mission, only taking on more when they ran out of money.

After all, this was Night City. Except for the wealthy, no one would save the money they painstakingly earned. Everyone didn't know whether they'd live to see tomorrow or if an accident would befall them first, especially mercenaries who lived on the edge.

If you died with your money unspent, wouldn't that be a shame?

Therefore, the people of Night City were used to living in the moment, carpe diem, as they say. Who cared what tomorrow brought?
