Chapter 12
The Most Reliable Hacker

In the afternoon, with nothing to do, Lucy didn't leave Jiang Heng's house. Instead, she took a nap there.

Lucy actually thought she might be crazy. Not only did she accept an invitation from someone she had only known for less than a day to go to his house, but she also slept there without any reservations.

However, here, Lucy felt a sense of warmth. This feeling was unfamiliar to her, yet it captivated her. She didn't want to leave and return to her cold little nest.

As Lucy woke up, Jiang Heng was on the phone outside.

"Rog, do you have any good jobs? I'm telling you, I found a really talented hacker. You can give me some more challenging tasks."

After a day of rest, Jiang Heng felt it was time to get back to work. After all, the more tasks he completed, the stronger he would become.

Now that Lucy, a top-notch hacker, was on his team, Jiang Heng could take on a wider range of jobs.

"Yo~ I can't believe it. You actually found a partner in just a day? But is she reliable? Good hackers are very rare."

Rog's voice came from the other end of the line.

"Absolutely reliable. There's no hacker in Night City more reliable than her!" Jiang Heng said confidently.

Rog scoffed at this. "Cut it out, kid. Don't talk big. Be careful you don't get sold out with nothing left. This is Night City, after all!"

"Stop the nonsense, just tell me if you have a job!"

"Yes, come to Lailai Sheng tonight. We'll talk in person."

"Okay, no problem."

After hanging up, Jiang Heng turned to go back inside, but he saw Lucy leaning against the glass door, looking at him.

"Awake? How was your sleep?" Jiang Heng asked with a smile.

Lucy, lost in thought, came back to her senses when she heard Jiang Heng's words and replied, "Not bad."

Then, she immediately turned and walked towards the bathroom.

At this moment, her mind was filled with Jiang Heng's words: "There's no hacker in Night City more reliable than her!"

Lucy didn't know why Jiang Heng trusted her so much. Originally, she thought it was crazy for her to be so unreserved with Jiang Heng, but she never thought Jiang Heng's trust in her was even lower, or even non-existent!

"Why, even though we just met, can he trust me so much?" Lucy couldn't understand, but her heart was filled with a strange joy.

Lucy, in the past, had never thought about making friends, because she never stayed in one place for long.

And the world was inherently cold, Lucy didn't dare to trust anyone. The more people knew her, the easier it would be for Arasaka's network hackers to find clues and locate her.

However, this guy, Jiang Heng, acted and behaved differently from everyone else in this world. He invited her, someone he'd only known for less than a day, to his house and even cooked for her himself.

He seemed like he wasn't even from this world.

How could Lucy know that Jiang Heng was indeed not from this world? His thoughts were not influenced by this world, so naturally, he acted differently from those who were from this world.

Most importantly, Jiang Heng knew Lucy very well. It was because of this knowledge that he treated her this way.

Jiang Heng wasn't an idiot, nor was he a social butterfly. He wouldn't just bring strangers home so easily.

...

In the evening, Jiang Heng was too lazy to cook, so he made two bowls of noodles to make do.

Even so, Lucy was amazed.

Actually, Jiang Heng just made simple "dandan" noodles. Since Night City didn't have the ready-made noodles from Longguo, Jiang Heng made them himself by kneading the dough and then pulling them by hand.

It has to be said that these hand-pulled noodles tasted much better than the machine-made noodles. They felt more chewy.

At this moment, Lucy was completely conquered by the delicious food Jiang Heng made. She never thought that eating could be such a happy thing.

In the past, Lucy only saw food as something to fill her stomach. She didn't care what she ate or how it tasted, as long as she was full and could get the energy her body needed.

But now, after eating Jiang Heng's cooking, Lucy realized that she probably wouldn't be able to eat those street stalls in Night City anymore.

...

After dinner, the two went for a walk outside to digest their food.

Lucy, like a curious student visiting a botanical garden, kept asking Jiang Heng questions about vegetables.

"Jiang Heng, what is this?"

"This? It's a white radish. You can eat it raw, or use it for stewing soup, etc. It's a very nutritious vegetable."

"You can eat it raw? Can I try some?" Lucy's eyes lit up when she heard she could eat it.

"Of course." Jiang Heng naturally wasn't stingy. He bent down and pulled out a white radish, washed it briefly in the house, peeled it with a knife, and handed it to Lucy.

Lucy held the radish leaves, looked at the pure white radish, and asked, "Do you just eat it like that?"

"Yeah, have a taste. This one is ripe. It should taste a bit sweet, but some white radishes might have a special spicy taste."

Crunch~

Hearing this, Lucy didn't hesitate anymore. She opened her mouth and took a bite.

"Wow, it's such a unique taste, but it's really delicious, crunchy and sweet." After taking a bite, Lucy's joy was evident.

It's not that raw white radish is really that delicious. It's mainly that Lucy had never tasted anything like it before. For someone who had always eaten synthetic food, a white radish was essentially a delicacy.

At this moment, Jiang Heng couldn't help but chuckle. Lucy seemed to be captured by a white radish.

It could only be said that Jiang Heng underestimated the impact of fresh vegetables on ordinary people in this world.
